Hi I am working on a building that has +- 30 flats and I would like to fix the cable spaghetti of DSTV & openview cables and satélites. Is their a way to install a communal dish setup that allows the user to use either DSTV or open view. Most of the tenants use DSTV while some use Openview so I do not want to go install a DSTV communal system if the open view viewers wont be able to use it.

Think you would have more luck in calling a provider that installs both and getting advice from them.

Not saying that nobody knows the answer here but also getting them to find this post and respond may take time. The professionals I'm sure will have this knowledge on tap for you if you call and enquire.

You can via fibre, though it is expensive. e.g 30 x fibre cable runs +- R2000 each (excluding any trenching) + DSTV GTU and installation of +- R2000 per unit. Then the dish + head-end of +- R20k.

Your first step is to approach both OVHD and MC commercial services to get information on what their requirements are.
Next, would be to see what someone like space TV has to say on what is available.

The bones are
1 You need an antenna. One per building. Trying to do all of this from one antenna on a distribution basis can be investigated after you know what is required to one building. The only reason to do so will be economies of scale.
2. You need a simple cable distribution system. With preferably a minimum of cables for each unit. And on fibre not copper.
3. You need a indoor unit that is universal and not restricted byeithr MC or OVHD ,or any other provider that may come along.

4. A search of modern systems in Europe is by far a better source for info than looking at the USA for best practice.

At home I just plug Open View HD decoder into cable, after unconnecting DSTV decoder, just works.

Yes, single cable feed from the antenna and only one decoder connected. It is when you want to run more than one decoder at the same time that the fun starts.

Got a couple of 8 feed LNB's ...

Sure, IF you live in a home. I have always had an 8-way LNB installed. But no longer that easy for anyone at the mercy of a badly installed/maintained or specified communal antenna system, driven by a BC that does not want to get a proper solution or allow owners to install their own antennas.

Sectional Title can be a bugger ...

I want an air rifle range - 50 meters, the BC does not want to play ... :)
