I spoke to a manager at OpenServe/Telkom this morning regarding FTTH in Burgundy. I forwarded a number of posts on mybroadband about lack of infrastructure in BE to him. He has promised to discuss the matter with the network planners in Cape Town and will revert with feedback. The feedback is likely only to come in the new year as Telkom is currently in its freeze period. Once I get feedback, I will take the matter to the Burgundy Estate Master Home Owners' Association.

In the meantime, perhaps PM me your contact details. If all goes well, we might need to do a public survey in Burgundy to guage interest.

No! I was not aware of that. I also asked them for more information just now. From what the consultant told me, at this point you can't just simply order FTTH yet. They need a commitment from residents before they will install FTTH, but they only need 17 people. Sounds like a decent offering though: 200mbps up and down.

Yeah, but 20gb cap is nothing. An uncapped account with 20mbps would be better.

Seems data is priced at R3/GB at 200mbps. The Cybersmart phone consultant did mention that the Lightspeed offering is open access, so presumably you would be able to choose a different ISP with a uncapped option?

So after a month of constant incorrectly advice given by Telkom I finally have been told I can get a 10mb line and maybe a 20mb soon

Hi, did you manage to speak to anyone at the HOA?

I also want to know.

I understand that Telkom is now offering Fibre in Burgundy Estate.
Btw was on the phone with Afrihost yesterday and the agent said they will be offering Fibre from June.

I forwarded the correspondence with Openserve to Marite who will forward it to the trustees. I'm awaiting feedback from the trustees.

Do you perhaps know to which person you sent it to?
Hanri has left and it seems that Frankie is the guy to speak to now regarding Fibre.

I sent it to Jacky (Manager/Owner at Marite). I received a reply from her that my mail has been forwarded to the trustees.

Did you ever get any response from the trustees?

Hi Stefan

Don't know if you are still here but I have seen on Cybersmart website that they now offer FTTH in Burgundy Estate. But only certain areas.

1. Ruby Estate
2. Waboomkloof Complex (Don't know where this is)
3. Sienna Drive (Don't know how this works)

Anybody using these services?

I have spoken to Lightspeed and the support really sucked. I had to give my details several times and he still could not help me or understand my request. Afterwards I emailed them and got a better response.

I am in Ruby - they need about 16 people (R10 000) before starting in a complex. They also need Landlord/Body Corp permission. I don't know if I can find 16 people in the complex though :(

I'm in Ruby Estate too (Diamonds side), and also queried about them running a line here.. We need to see how many people we can rally up and see if we can get this going.

I have spoken to Marite and they are taking it up with the trustees. Once we have their go ahead it should be easier.

I have not heard a word from Marite or Burgundy Estate Trustees. It seems the new Rabie Developments will be getting fibre and the installer seems to be Frogfoot. Would still need a good uptake per complex to get it initiated.
