Yes it shows planned, but the pipes have been placed from Checkers (Dark Fibre line runs there) up to De Grendel as well. I assume the process after placing the pipes is a lot faster. The more people register on the portal, the faster they will start in certain areas. The reason I am very keen on Frogfoot is that they only install the line, you can pick your package (on contract or month to month). If we have enough uptake it take 4 - 6 weeks for installation.

The only thing missing is the Body Corporate permission.
Marite property has sent me a mail saying that I can install the "Carbon Fibre" at my own cost. So I take that as permission to go ahead.

It seems that they can use the manhole route - check the article after registering. I can only assume this means no trenching within Ruby Estate since there are manholes everywhere. Maybe someone has more information on this?

Carbon Fibre :crylaugh:

Marite are an absolute joke

I phoned WebAfrica this morning, I'm on the corner of Viridian and Burgundy Drive and according the Sales team they are coming that way.
They submitted a pre-order and will forward my details to FrogFoot. I'm assuming this would be the same as registering on the FrogFoot portal?

Our complex uses Property Principals as the Administrators of which I am a Trustee so luckily Marite wouldn't have to be involved for my complex. However the man-hole thing has me interested.. So basically they wont have to trench inside the complex?

From the article on the website:

"The installation fee charged by the ISP covers the first 30m of trench, duct and fibre, from the corner of your property closest to the nearest manhole to the closest electrical point in your house. If the closest electrical point is more than 30 metres, you will need to negotiate a price, for the remainder of the distance, with the contractor installing the fibre.

Depending on the nature of the terrain, the agreed method of deploying the fibre and any specific conditions you might negotiate, the fee can be anything from R50/m upwards.

Please note that the commercial agreement for any work regarding the excess distance over and above 30m does not involve your ISP or Frogfoot Networks."

I could be wrong but it seems so

Are you talking about Sierra Views? If so, I would be interested in applying.

Meh I also went to Marite today to see whatsup with the trench that was being dug assuming im a couple of weeks away from getting Fibre just to find out it's just for MTN running through Estate not branching out or anything. You can apply on Cybersmarts site for Marquise Road in Ruby which I am in. Come on we need to get more folks applying. I'm the only owner in Gems 17 so my neighbors are not interested in fibre. Want my Cybersmart 200Mbps Up and 200Mbps down.

I am indeed!

I have spoken to the rest of the trustees and they are all keen as well. I think perhaps putting a small write-up in our newsletter but not sure how many people read those... perhaps an email to all owners?

So I'm interested to know which is Frogfoot vs MTN?

Got an email from WebAfrica saying the provider (Frogfoot) estimates 6 months wait

There are multiuple companies laying the Fibre - I think the Corline Fibre guys is laying for MTN and the guys at Rabie's complexes side seems Frogfoot.

Lightspeed still seems quite expensive (R599 for 20gb) so if you want another 100gb it will be R898pm.
Even if you drop the speed to 200mb/s that data will disappear at lightspeed.

I use about 100gb per month on a 2mb/s line. Wonder how much that would be at 200 - 300mb/s

I just placed an order via Web Africa. They promised the longest time I will wait is 8 weeks. I really hope it is not 6 Months.

That's cool, Ye I think that should be done, I'm not sure how many people rent/own there, but It will help increase the value of the unit anyways.

I thought it would have been discussed in the annual meeting, but I never saw any mention. Glad to hear there are people keen on the complex getting fiber.

Keep me in the loop please.

I asked them a few questions on Facebook:

ME: Will frogfoot be covering the entire of Burgundy Estate eventually or will it only be for Rabie's developments for a while?
FROGFOOT: I'm not sure. Let me find out for you.
...
ME: Any updates on what parts of burgundy will be covered? I check the coverage map every day to see new outlines :( Only places shown are still those where nobody lives yet
FROGFOOT: Apparently the whole area will eventually be covered. Who is your developer? Maybe you could ask them to engage with us?

Sorry yeah, wasn't much info, but it seems like they are planning to cover all of burgundy.... eventually:crying:. WebAfrica and VOX both make it seems like fibre is only a few weeks away. From my discussion with frogfoot, it seems at least 6 months to a year away. Pity they haven't updated the map with new areas yet. Would have loved a little more feedback about the state of things.

Anyone who is interested in Fibre in Ruby Estate please register on the Frogfoot portal. Its not binding, it just gets things going i suppose. I spoke to a guy there yesterday. They are still waiting for more interest to continue rollout. Gonna need a lot more pins :(

Got this at least - finally some kind of answer on how many people have shown interest.

I have seen some place advertised with FTTH wiring as standard. Of course you pay for your own access.

OT: I am looking at renting in Burgundy Estate.

Firstly: How bad is the smell from the refinary and the silos?
Secondly: Anyone have a property for rent available Feb/March? :p

We have no smell in Ruby Estate, the wind blows the other way. Will trade smell for Fibre

I'm pretty sure it reaches there since I'm close to ruby estate, then again I'm top-floor (but not giving away my exact estate :D )
