Buy a Contract phone from Someone (Galaxy Note II)

Hi guys,

I have never bought a phone from someone before. I am about to buy a Note II from someone who got it on contract from Vodacom and we are supposed meet on to Tuesday. Therefore I wonder what happens to me if he fails to pay his installments. and what documents should I require from him.

If he fails to pay will they block my phone?

Thanks for your help.

^^^^^ This.
If I were you I would be very worried about that.
Also not sure about this but if I were you get him to sign a document stating that he will give your money back if that happens.
Do you know the seller?
Also be be careful about stolen phones.
If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

I don't know the seller. We have agreed to meet at Vodaworld, since it is few minutes away from my house. He has told me that the phone carries two years warranty from Vodacom and I have required a proof of purchase. Just now I have read the terms and conditions of the Vodacom contract where it states that the phone will be the property of VC until the installment is fully paid.

But for 5.5K is price is actually fitting my budget.

When I was 21 my dad took out a contract for me in his name.

When he passed away 8 months later Vodacom blacklisted the phone as the contract was not matured

I have found another guy with a 32 GB, Titanium grey. Paid in full with proof of payment, the phone carries a 2 years Warranty with MTN and it has been used for about a week. He is selling it for 6.5K. Is that a good deal?

If i was in your area i would buy the phone .

I am sure if they black list the phone you can root it,I may be wrong may be some one that knows can enlighten us.

Blacklisting a phone is done at network level, not device.

Thanks guys for your advices. After asking the seller about all the documents, he had never emailed me again. I have realised that he was going to get the phone on contract, sell it to me, then declare it stolen. I went to the second guy who has provided me with a proof of payment, and his phone was paid in full. I really enjoy the phone.
