bwana's new camera

bwana, you may have to have your flash's firmware updated. I have read the 530 Super needs an update to work on the 5DmkII and 50D.

Heheh, yeah, the pastic fantastic will look pretty comical on such a big body. Then again, I held the 50mm f/1.4 yesterday - it's hardly bigger. You need the 50mm f/1.0 to balance the 1DmkIII...

LIES! :D The 85 F1.2 is as big as the 50 F1.0 .... it makes the 1D tip over... with the 50 F1.2 it's able to stay upright :p

Did they ever make a 85mm f/1.0? That would be awesome. I've never actually held the 85mm /f1.2, but I have held the 50mm f/1.0, much to the shopkeeper's distress...

Not that I know of. But the images I have seen lead me to believe the 85 F1.2 and the 50 F1.0 use the same housing.

hehe the DOF is extremely thin on the F1.2 lenses, just move slightly and the ear instead of the eye is in focus :D Get it right tho and the images are just awesome.

You enjoy carrying a camera and a camcorder at the same time - let alone switching between the two? No thanks - I welcome video.

The convergence makes sense in a lot of respects and bringing pro quality video to digital SLRs is a nifty added feature. I just hope that in the convergence the still quality doesn't suffer because of it, as I will always prefer stills over video.

As long as my sigma still works cos I wont be doing much shopping after that. :o

I did hear a rumour that there was a lens rental place opening up in PE. . .

there's a place in 38 Westbourne Road, Central that hires out lenses. It's called PhotoHire. Im not sure if you've seen/heard of this place yet but i asked the guy and they said they get some lenses from their Cape Town branch too. you can check them out on www.photohire.co.za and also download a brochure with lenses and camera's they rent out. they also service camera's

Sounds possible. It's a pretty big lens, that!

That's true, these lenses are good for more than just close up portraits. I love the look they give when shooting larger scenes at really large apertures - pleasing background. I'm still thinking of getting a Pentax SMC-A 50mm f/1.2. I know I cannot even almost justify a new Canon EF-50mm f/1.2L and I can use an adapter *and* use it on my K1000 :)

Sony introduces new entry level DSLR camera range

I know virtually nothing about photography, but received a press release about Sony's new Alpha range today. It looks cool to a guy like me :D

Sony Electronics Asia Pacific presents three new entry-level cameras, A230, A330 and A380, delivering greater usability to first-time DSLR users. The latest cameras offer an all-new Graphic User Interface (GUI), lightweight and stylish design, and high performance features, allowing users to intuitively understand DSLR camera functions and capture images effortlessly. The A330 and A380 sport Sony’s unique Quick AF Live View technology for quick and easy live view operation. Weighing a mere 450g, the A230 is additionally the world’s lightest DSLR camera with a built-in image stabilisation system in its body.

quick question, why a MUST it be a Canon? played around a bit with my mom's D700,and that seemed pretty nice.

I'm guessing it's because Bwana already has a few Canon lenses.

The D3 is a fantastic camera and I'm sure the D700 is as well.

I really cant afford new glass or to get rid of my existing glass as I'm planning on keeping the 400Ds.
