After being with Mweb uncapped for just over a year now, I have had enough. They will get my cancellation tomorrow. I am not a heavy user but cant even pull a decent stream of the internet. Not to mention normal http downloads. Enough is enough. Any suggestions on good uncapped accounts? Would have loved the WA special but lost out.

Hi NoStiC,

Please PM me more information regarding your query and your MWEB account details in order for me to look further into this.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Mweb is the best in the uncapped market.Oh well more interwebs for me.
Oh yea what is enough? you have not even told us the problem.

Since January the internet has not been a pleasant experience for me. I love to stream documentaries. This has become impossible for me lately. Tried grabbing some torrents to get something good to watch but seldom get over 5KB/s. Even my 20yo son has given up on all except browsing. If I have the best uncapped internet in RSA it is really a sad day for internet users.

I am on MWEB amongst 2 others and have no hassles whatsoever with MWEB. One of the best options imo. Check your line and exhange. You are likely to cancel and have the same problem wherever you go.

The easiest way to check whether it's a Telkom or Mweb problem is to test with a capped account.

If it's a Telkom (line or exchange) problem, the speed you’re currently getting with Mweb should be the same on the capped account - if not, you'll need to resolve the issue with Mweb or change to a new ISP.

PM me if you require a capped account to test with :)

or he could try the 1GB free AfriHost Account(free monthly 'til you cancel, if they're still running it). Or he can try the WebAfrica 3GB trail account(14days or 3GB, whichever first). Or buy 1GB from Axxess (starts from R19/GB)

I also had to cancel last year. It was fine for ages and then all of a sudden terrible and they couldn't or wouldn't fix it. Fine on other accounts. So you're not alone.

Not a viable strategy; As two of the ISP's you have mentioned are reliant on the highly unstable Internet Solutions (IS) backbone and the other mentioned ISP's bandwidth is heavily shaped - therefore testing with these might yield unexpected results.

I would go with Reuben's suggestion or investigate: http://www.measurementlab.net/

As for MWEB, it seems the novelty has worn off and most understand the pitfalls of uncapped and or shaped internet offerings.

@ NoStiC - Rest assured you are not alone in your frustration. I normally advise those that find themselves in a similar predicament, to stay well clear of any ISP that shape bandwidth, offer uncapped products and or utilise IS' infrastructure and rather opt for a high volume capped account.

This will allow for a pleasant and reliable internet experience.

honestly,,,,,,

my suggestions are there so he can have a free / cost effective means of testing if it's his line or ISP.

Beyond that it's highly recommended that he looks at the products/services of all ISPs. After that he should take the product that for him either meets with his expectations/budget or is the closest there too.

Nowhere did i state that those suggestions are permanent/long term solution to his current problem.

So i kindly request you READ posts & not glance at them before posting.

I don't see the point of him signing another contract before he's done proper fault finding.

if you are downloading public torrents with a 1:3 seed/leech ratio dont expect speed...

i get full speed all night on my mweb using mostly torrents, average 350+ gigs a month no problem.

I had the same problem, terriable performance. As soon as i sent my cencelation to Mweb and got my ref number it was like a ferrari attached itself to my line. so i stopped the cancelation and been happy since, averaging 350Gig's a month

Hi Venomous

My apologies for being unclear: [read] "Not a viable strategy;" [as] Not a viable testing strategy;" - was referring to the evaluation procedure you have suggested and as clearly indicated in Reuben's post,

PM me if you require a capped account to test with :)

therefore felt it unnecessary to reiterate that it is for evaluation purposes.

He could have instead simply requested a free of charge / small testing account from TRL Tech, as the bandwidth is not shaped.
