C&C Remastered Announcement from EA

Hopefully the fix the mechanics as well. I hate remasters that literally just spruce up the graphics but leave the controls alone. I'm looking at the Gears one, nice graphics but none of the improvements from 2 or 3 were put into the remaster??
Only thing about modern mechanics, if they add them will it make the games too easy? Half the effort of the old games was wrestling with the mechanics. If they allow build queues, unit queuing, waypoints etc it may mean they will need to tweak the difficulty level.

Yeah but we've moved on in 23 years, if we had to go back to that it would actually prevent a lot of people playing it. Also what we were used to and put up with then, isn't what we will put up with now.

If they remaster it but don't introduce stuff like that, I would say they are wasting their time. I for one won't buy it.

They can adjust the difficulty if they need to, but personally I don't think the difficulty came from the mechanics. The game wasn't that hard anyway.

god i hope they dont stuff this up.....................honestly i hope they pull this off.

I remember playing C&C on my old pentium 1 100mhz with 16mb ram. Those were the days, classic Rts games. Definitely picking this up as I was looking at getting it (original again) anyway.

Played the original a few months ago, forgot how over the top the death screams of infantry where

That one scream is also used in lots of movies, that shriek scream that goes for 1-2 seconds, always wondered where that was originally from.

I was in Standard 6 when the original came out, I remember a friend got it and I loaned the GDI disc while he played NOD, when then swopped over when we finished. I got Red Alert and we did the same thing with that a year later. I remember taking my entire PC out with me to a family braai and setting it up just to play Red Alert.
Think it was a 133Mhz Pentium with 16 megs of RAM back then, I doublespaced the hard drive as well sigh.

But that's not the one the infantry make when they die. The Wilhelm scream can be heard in Star wars, Indiana Jones and some cartoons.
This, it's a similar kind of thing but definitely not the same.

That is still pretty cool and it is good that EA got Petroglyph games involved. Of course, the reason why EA had to get Petroglyph games involved is because they destroyed Westwood and then shut it down. Every studio with an ounce of creativity gets destroyed by EA - this has happened to the NFS franchise too.

I hope Petroglyph rip EA a new one in terms of compensatory income loss over the years.

Unfortunately, this is still EA and they will be ripping the customer a new one price wise as well.

This is also a nostalgia train. So let's not make anything new. Let's just use a tried and testing formula to rake in the cache.

I prefer my memories of C&C (all versions) to remain as they are without some money whore company coming in and shitting on them.

I doubt that. KKnD and Dark Reign had queues and it is pretty much the same game play, though KKnD is way more rush. Dune 2000 had a queue patch and it made the game better in every sense.

OpenRA already introduced much what is needed to be in the remastered edition, and when EA made the hint that they will remaster the 1st decade, which is now reduced to C&C and RA, and Tiberium Twilight they did say that the 1st decade will include elements introduced by the devs (and modders) in OpenRA.

Their dilemma is whether to go 3D or 2D and though 2D is nostalgic they would want the younger 'audience' to also be interested. There is a mod out there which 'remastered' C&C in Generals.

keyword here is competition platformer, if they make this game a competition platformer, the game will be doomed before even conceptualized, the reason cnc original's felt so great was because of more realism and an immersive atmosphere.

The evolution of the genre would've been different though, no rts were so immersive and felt so real, as the old cnc titles.
