e220 11.314.12.02.00

- The APN you used

internet

Since Dec2008/Jan 2009 this problem has come along, pings of 300+(probably since the upgrade to the network). Before that pings of 140~180 were the norm (using w660 and e51 then). Got this e220 recently and nothings changed, tbh it looks as if it takes longer to connect to the war3 server with the e220 than with the phones. Signal strength is almost permanently excellent and hsdpa is there half the time.
Gna check if i get the same problem in Bellville, cpt central and up the westcoast then share the results

Teah, will check tonight again, but I am really surprised with it. No fancy trick or settings... Single usb cable, it's a bit long so the modem is hanging in the window. Browsing flies and mail downloading as well. I used VC 3G last year in March and back then it wasn't this quick.

Edit: Won't be enabling 3.6 as you still have to pay for that. :( Don't think it will make that big of a difference with the games, so no use in paying for it.

3.6 doesnt make a difference to latency on war3, well as far as I have seen. I played war3 with 3.6 enabled and without, I get similar latency.

What does make a difference though it the APN you are on. I have noticed using the INTERNET APN I get abt 30 to 40 ms higher latency than using VPN APN.

gents fellow dota players good news is moving us to 3.6 does improve latency at midnight it was 89ms but there definate lag im not sure why? :/

Well I get 70 to 90ms pings with HSDPA 1.8 from 6 to about 11pm. So I dnt see the difference. But since 3.6 is free anyway from now on, it really doesnt matter now does it :)

im also getting a lot of spikes and lag even though i get 120 ms which is normal for me. on the war3 server.. stopped playing for a while try again early hours of this morning but things havent been good today dota wise.

I just played a bit of WoW on the Blade's Edge (EU) server. I was averagin about 2000 ms latency with a lot of lag spikes. I had to quit because I was getting frustrated by it

For the past week or so I have been getting alot of delay and lag spikes while playing war3. I have also noticed my ping slightly increasing, it used to be around 70 to 90ms, but now its constantly above 100ms.

I havent played a decent game in a while, playing Dota now is like playing a turn based RPG, i go into a fight, the game lags, and when the lag is over, im dead...lol...or I come out almost dead.

I'm not a gamer, but from what I have experienced so far...

I have full signal all the time due to me using an external antennae. Since using that, I have not been booted off the network, although sometimes the connection does seem to "freeze" if I don't use it for a lfew hours, and my B970 needs to be rebooted. The connection is set to on demand, which operates correctly.

The latency (ping) during non peak time, seems to sit between 75ms and 90ms.

In the evenings, I have noticed that it can go up to around 150ms.

During non peak time, my DL is around 1.3Mb/s and UL is around 1.1Mb/s.
During peak time, the B970 seems to suffer a bit, often dropping down considerably to DL of between 400Kb/s and 800 Kb/s. The UL during peak time sometimes is effected, ranging between 600 Kb/s and 1Mb/s. Generally though the UL is around the higher end.

Peak time I have found seems to be around 9PM with 1 or 2 hours either side, during the week. Weekends, generally everything is slowly but less extreme fluctations.

These stats are from speedtest.net to the JHB server. I am in the Randburg area. I am on a prepaid sim.

The best result I have obtained from speedtest.net is 1.8Mb/s DL and 1.2Mb/s UL with a ping of 70ms. This result I have only managed to obtain once, which was at 1AM about a week ago.

I have had the B970 for almost two months now, and my experience with Vodacom is far improved. Previous my E220 would regularly disconnect at about 9PM and only return at about 11PM.

I have. Normally I have about 600ms lag on WoW, but today I'm getting 3000+. This seems to be recurring every few weeks lately.

Mikrotik RB411UAHR Kit

Good Day Everyone

Q : What is the problem (lag, latency, ping, disconnects)
A : You can say that I got every description above at random times, my current equipment allows me to connect AUTOMATICALLY once the equipment has POWER, and SIM Card is loaded with Data Bundle.

Q : What games are you playing (is it a FPS, real-time or turn based etc)
A : I am playing following Games :
Ultima Online - Stygian Abyss on a local Server ( The Forgotton Realm (TFR / UOSA )) - RPG Real Time
Eve Online - Incursion on International Server- RPG Real Time
Call of Duty Black Ops on Local Servers ( FPS Real Time )
Legion of Legends on International Server ( US ) - RPG Real Time

Q : Which data card are you using
A : I am curently using MikroTik RB411UAHR with a 3G (SimCom 5220 mini PCI-Express ) Card attached to the main input I got a 3G Yagi Antenna ( Model : TDJ - 0825DS ) all the equipment was bought through my work at Miro Distribution ( Pretoria ).

Q : The modem type and firmware rev.
A : All the standard Fireware is loaded. Using Winbox v2.2.15. When logged in at Winbox the topic changes to Winbox v4.5 on RB411UAHR.
In the process of asking Miro for assistance getting the PPP Link dbi Signal Strength

Q : The APN you used
A : Using APN : "internet"
Dial code : *99#
Dial Command : ATDT
Enabled : pap, mschap1, chap , mschap2
use peer DSN , Add Default Route

Q : Is it a new problem or has it always been + Is the problem experienced at all times of the day or only during peak hours
A : The problem has occured after around 18 December 2010 and repeats itself intermittently but still affects my service.
I have asked Vodacom for assistance ( REF : S2-624M36-62IUB ) , after long complaint I have put in a Hello Peter responce ( Ref : A1-EJIM-0IH1BW ). After finally getting some responce from Lee York ( Hello Peter - Mobile Data Support Specialist Planning & Optimization Department )... I was informed that my antenna was positioned in the wrong direction, changed it towards Lethlabile. The connection speed has improved a bit but I am still having problems with package losses. The lag does increase during peak hours ( 7-12PM ). I do notice some spikes in connection aswell where some of my ping connection to www.google.com goes from 89-7923 in a matter of seconds, and drops sometimes.

Q : The exact location so we can also check the site covering you
A : Plot 910 Mamogalieskraal
Brits
0250

Directions : From Hendrik Vervoerd Ave ( heading from Pretoria to Brits – Main road), at the last robot ( GSM Motors on left side ) turn right onto Van Velden street… Continue with the road for +- 13-14km’s you till find a T junction stop, at that stop (seen small fruit and veg shop on left ) turn right.
Across the train rail lines about 1.1km downwards there should be a turn off on the right hand side – gravel road…
( should notice a tree hanging almost over the road before the gravel road, and a red shop board)
About 700m along that road you would see a wooden house + brick house build together, turn into that entrence.

You will then notice the 3G yagi antenna is attached to the last pole
More or less Coordinates are as follow ( guessing from Google Earth ): 25 32 47 78 S 27 47 26 01E
