Going to buy a camera for my Girlfriend as a Birthday Gift - budget is +- R1800

Now I know 8+ Megapixel is way more than enough, since I have owned a 5 Megapixel camera a few years ago and it was fine.
so please don't recommend I spend more to get a 12 megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom or something :D

So yeah - anything over 6 megapixels is fine, 3x optical zoom, whatever digital zoom (10x?) would be fine.

1 more thing - it should be preferably PINK :D :D

I found this so far:
http://www.makro.co.za/live/content...t=1191&ProdId=19212&Sku=000000000000165258|EA

although it's not pink, it's got the specs I need and at a good price (plus added stuff which I don't need to buy extra) :o

What do you guru's recommend?

Thanks merc, looks like I need to get the Sony DSC-S930 Pink - it's only R1200 :)

• 10.1 Megapixel
• 3x Optical zoom lens
• Face Detection
• SteadyShot image stabilisation
• High sensitivity ISO 3200
• 2.4-inch (112K dot) LCD
• 7 scene selection modes
• Fun in-camera retouching functions
• Picture Motion Browser software

I can't order online though, need it today - and don't have a makro card with me (and it's a bit far as well) - hopefully some shop in Lakeside mall sells this thing :erm:

You can get a temporary Makro card and buy it -> http://www.makro.co.za/live/content...t=1117&ProdId=22747&Sku=000000000000168557|EA

true, but your site was even cheaper than makro, meaning if I DO find it at another shop, it will also likely be in the R1200 range.

I'm at work so time is a bit hectic - gonna go in lunchtime or something.

Or you could have done something about it sooner....
I ordered something for my wifes birthday from SAcamera a few days ago and it arrived the next day. They have awesome service and pricing.

Good deal.

Of course, if she's serious about photography you could put the R1800 towards a second-hand DSLR. :D

and what's the diff between a dslr and a normal digital camera?

and what's the diff between a dslr and a normal digital camera?

Larger sensor that captures light differently which results in better pictures. More advanced settings etc. They're bigger and bulkier and one doesn't use the LCD to take photos, one uses the viewfinder (some DSLRs have the ability to use the LCD to take photos). They allow for interchangeable lenses. DSLRs are a lot more expensive.

90% of forumites in the Photography section have DSLRs. :)

They will not suit your gf if she just wants a small point and shoot.

thanks! that helps :)

plus, I don't think any pink DSLR's exist :D

-Went to CNA - S930 was R1800
-Game didn't have any

Went to the place my boss recommended, and they didn't have stock (price R1200), but they showed me the Sony W210 - R1900. (and in pink too)

threw in a 1GB mem, and a pink sony pouch for a total of only R2150.

I spent R1900 instead of R1200 for the cam, but it's got way better specs!
- 4x opt zoom instead of 3x
- 12.1 megapixel instead of 10
- Bigger Screen
- Think it has that smile shutter thing
- Rechargable cellphone-like battery instead of 2xAA's
- Carl Zeiss lens

hehe, nah...

As im a gfx designer i made a quick mock-up of some unknown camera brand - printed it and gonna stick it on the box. covered all sony logo's as well.
