Colonialism is the establishment, exploitation, maintenance, acquisition, and expansion of colony in one territory by a political power from another territory. It is a set of unequal relationships between the colonial power and the colony and often between the colonists and the indigenous population.

They're technically British Overseas Territories, not colonies. They called something other than colonies because, unlike colonies, they retain their rather superficial links to the UK by choice, they self govern and of course are not routinely exploited and pillaged by the Crown.

Colonial relationships have always been forceful and exploitative. That is why people speak ill of the Colonial Era. You can't equate that brutal relationship to what happens today... not with any credibility anyway.

No it's not. Membership of the commonwealth is voluntary, the types of membership differ. We are part of the commonwealth as well.

I've presented very logical reasons for the differentiations between these two very distinct types of relationships mate. The relationship between the BOTs and the modern day UK is nothing like the brutal exploitative relationship between the Colonial Era colonies of the British Empire where people were stripped of their rights and treated like livestock. If you're going to insist on continuing with this direct comparison as though they're the same despite the fatal flaws that have already been pointed out then don't expect that feeble notion to gain you any credibility.

The UK does not fall under the sovereignty of Syria, its people are not being loaded onto ships and wagons and taken to plantations and back to Syria to work as slaves and its mineral wealth is not being exploited for the benefit of the landed nobility in Syria.

I agree, you definitely don't know what it means. What is more in thinking that what is happening today is anything like the horror that happened in the Colonial Era you are belittling the scale of human suffering visited upon the people residing in the colonies during that era.
