Perhaps you noticed that people on this forum involved in computer business are quite happy from Windows 10. It is a reason for their gladness.

Might be so boet! But see us here people in the platteland.... " if it works, don't change it!" ;)

Meanwhile back on the HO's computer, I booted into safe mode and am busy rolling it back to the previous build....

I suspect the issue might have been the Dell graphic driver.... as we caught a glimpse of an error message ranting about Dell and Windows 7 unable to operate before we were plunged into a dark screen, with the windows jingle humming out on the background...

Oo, erm...

See the first advisory in link below.

http://ezines.pastel.co.za/HTMLs/September_2015/1366_ver3/images/Windows10_checklist.pdf

Before you install Windows 10:
1.) Make sure that your Graphics driver has a Windows 10 compatible driver

2.) Make sure that your printer has a Windows 10 compatible driver

Reason: If there is no Windows 10 compatible drivers for your Printer or
Graphics driver this can cause screen resolution anomalies in Pastel.

:D :D

You are a brave fellow.

Linux not immune either - one of my friends Network Manager was bricked by an auto-update - hosed his internet :D - fortunately nothing that a quick Google and a touch of sudo pico / apt-get couldn't fix.

My life did briefly flash in front of my eyes as soon as I said it, thankfully, it transpired without any bodily harm occurring.

Trust me, a button was clicked. The bug for self-installing Windows 10 has been fixed months ago

We had 8 people in the office having the same issue since Friday and all of them claim to have not pressed the button. All of the affected people are consultants who provide their own laptops so it might be that the bug resurfaced...

Nope not fixed just changed ... with a new popup screen added ...... Unless you are super observant and watch your PC at start up, the new routine will kick in all by itself .....

Ain't a bug ... never was, completely pre-meditated and deliberate by Microsoft ....

On another note, I see that Pastel advisory tells people to turn off UAC completely.

Interesting...

Honestly the only thing I can think of is the privacy concerns. Other than that Win 10 is the best Windows yet.

Agree ....... just wish MS would sort out the manner in which updates happen. They just leave too many things to chance and have not done enough to help users through the upgrade/update process.

The issues is that MS is putting pressure on all those want to get the free upgrade to do so before the final date in July .... SO, knowing that many help lines and forums have shown people how to "remove" the previous upgrade notification, they got a new one going .....

The single biggest concern remains the loss of the Start menu and access to the universal in-built Apps, triggered every time by an update.

The update notice I truly hate to see is the one that has just appeared on my machine "You nee some updates", followed by a click and "Updates are available Definition Update for Windows Defender KB2267602"

Windows defender updates are the single source on my PC of all sorts of inexplicable problems.... if allowed to happen automatically. I shut down everything before allowing this update to proceed.

Has anyone ever done the rollback?

It's been running for over three hours and still going...... leaving it overnight to see what we have in the morning....

It's not really Microsoft's fault when people still use Pastel 2003 which then goes belly-up after the upgrade. Just had to deal with such a case today.

It is very challenging to explain to technophobes why it matters for software not to fall too far behind, and why their 'new' machine of 5 years ago won't cut the mustard anymore. :whistling:

Why is it so easy for them to accept that cellphones are old and outdated after 2 years, but not laptops after 3 years?

My windows 10 decided to update to 1511 in the middle of an important presentation to my directors. Needless to say, I found a brand new mac book Pro on my desk the next morning.
