Cancel ADSL line and get LTE instead?

Hi All,

We currently have a 8mb ADSL line with Telkom, but we are looking at getting uncapped LTE.

Our area has LTE of up to 90mb. We mostly use our ADSL line for streaming Netflix and Showmax and we have 2 devices connected to wi-fi at all times.

Is it a good idea to switch to LTE? What have your experiences been? I'm not very clued up on these things :)

Telkom, its R799 per month which is slightly more than what we pay for our ADSL line plus landline per month.

I'm open to suggestions if there are better options.
 
What kind of data amount did you move monthly with the ADSL, and what is the Fair Use Policy of the Uncapped account?
 
Make friends with somebody who has a router, speak to guys in the area, test it in your cell phone, get a loan router.

Telkom markets the product at up to 90mbps - you will not get this speed.

^This... If you move more than 300GB per month on ADSL, then be prepared to get throttled on LTE.

remember unless you don't need it you still going to have to have a landline so factor that cost in.
just note for R799 you can go 10Mb uncapped ADSL on Telkom (line rentals included)
 
Get a pre-paid Telkom Sim and load some data and then check the speed and coverage.

Secondly since everyone recommends you stay with ADSL, maybe you should change ISP and get 10Mbps line(including line rental) cheaper from the other ISPs

You can easily port your Telkom number to VOIP for a fraction of the price.
 
I've been telling everyone to get LTE because it rocks...Well...it did. Our connection is degrading daily and telkom is doing the telkom thing by delaying months before coming to check what is up. They sign up too many people on a tower.

The only way to eradicate the degrading of LTE speeds is to install towers at each street

How do I check this? As I mentioned, I am not very clued up when it comes to this...
