Cannot connect to certain international sites

There's something very screwy. These problems all seem to have started with the international failures.

I've checked on our side and no changes to the network engines (caching, firewalls, etc.) have been made.

We're busy checking with our friendly Telco to see if they've done anything.

The symptoms make me wonder if something that 'manages' HTTP is not suddenly in-line?

Yes indeed this problem is still here and now it seems to be affecting local sites too. Even some pages of this forum do not load first, second or even third refresh and then eventually they load. I am trying to get drivers from global.acer.com and I cannot access that website either. Then I tried www.saix.net and their site also loads halfway and then stops.

Unfortunately we are out in the bundus and 3G is our only connectivity. 90% of my business is international. Does Vodacom not have any alternative routes set up or do they purely rely on Telkom?

Something very weird is going on even this website sometimes doesn't load. Others work for 5 minutes then fail totally for the next 5 minutes.

Last night couldn't get access to any email via 3g including mweb for 2 hours. The only mail that worked from my mail client was gmail.

There is a lot more going wrong than just international.

An example is that it just took 3 attempts to post this message!

Horrible, horrible, horrible.

I am now using another internet connection. I regularly check the same sites on Vodacom as on my alternative link. It is like Vodacom internet has been reduced to a Lite version.

www.google.co.za loads but refuses to search.
www.google.com now loads and actually does a search, although some of the results are inaccesible.

Lucky for me this is my last contract month.

Your problem must be local to South Africa as I can access both of those sites via Vodacom 3G fine and with good speed!

I've just looked at the SAIX website and their links to the UK seem to use two satellite links direct to London and one more via Amsterdam.

Of course the plan is September 2006 and could be out of date but its at: http://www.saix.net/diagrams/ipnet_sep2006.pdf

Yes, I'm on the internet apn.

Will try the internetvpn now and report back.

:L:

Well what do you know..."internetvpn" APN works like a charm. PLUS it's alot faster than "internet" APN.

Tried all the sites I was having problems loading and they all loaded fine on "internetvpn" APN. Switched back to "internet" APN and nothing. Same problem as before, sites not loading or taking WAY TOO long to load.

Something's broken?

So at the moment using "internetvpn" APN to browse and post this message (I still couldn't post this message using "internet" APN, would just time out).

In Pretoria, right?

I have just done a couple of tests:

One site I've had problems accessing since Sunday is www.gshhelp.info

1: Just tried with a Nokia 9500 on Vodacom using APN internet. No access!
2: Did the same with MTN SIM full access all be it a bit slow!
3: Again with Virgin Mobile SIM full access at EDGE speed!
4: Final test using Huawei E220 and Vodacom APN internet. No access!

Methinks the problem is closer to home that we have thought!!!

Are you all on the internet apn?

Hi V3G .... I was on "unrestricted" and just switched to "internetvpn" when I read your message and now EVERYTHING seems to work okay again. So I guess the problems are with the "internet" and "unrestricted" apn's. Thanks for the tip at least we can get some work done while those other APN's are sorted out.

BTW things seem to be real snappy on the "internetvpn", I have noticed the last 2 weeks how the "unrestricted" apn has been very slow on lots of things .... especially now I can see a vast difference.

(i will try this message once, so if you read it, something is working sort of)

Can't resolve this URL on any connection. Is it correct?

Sorry a typo on my part: http://www.gsmhelp.info/

Just tried this on Virgin Mobile and its working OK.

Switched to my 6234 on Vodacom (internet APN) and I can't reach the site!
Same on my Huawei E-220 no joy!

Finally MTN is also OK with the above site.
