Now this is where i draw the line with TELSKUM!!!, i installed a adsl line at my house to support the bussiness remotely, And now TELSKUM said that i cannot ping/Telnet/SSH across their network.

THIS WAS NEVER MENTIONED IN ANY DOCUMENTAION FROM TELSKUM. DAMM TELSKUM YOUR ARE BAD NEWS TO S.A

Well if will be cancelling my adsl (0800 500 200) because of this crap!! WHY HAVE YOU GOT A INFRASTRUCTURE IF YOU CANNOT EVEN TELNET ACROSS IT.[xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][xx(][V][V][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][V]
I CANNOT WAIT FOR ANY OTHER SERVICE PROVIDER IN THE COUNTRY, EVEN THE TELEKOMMS IN NIGERIA WOULD BE BETTER[:D]

TELKOM YOU ARE BAD NEWS AND CREATING MORE DAMAGE TO THE COUNTRY BY RIPPING OFF THE USERS!!!

Calm down [:p] Can you be more specific about what you were told? SAIX has recently implemented measures to block ICMP Echo packets of a certain size; this has a side-effect of causing the windows tracert.exe to stop functioning, and maybe ping.exe (or something). Perhaps this is what they were talking about, and someone got the wrong end of the stick somewhere?

I can confirm that I regularly telnet/ssh to all sorts of places over our ADSL link, and I'm sure there are many others.

Hi Guys

I am trying to ssh into one of my sites, i tried and got no luck, so i did a ping, no reply, tracert and it stopped at a certain i.p address. i tried the same form my diginet line, and it works fine.
So i called the "Helpdesk" i explained the story, and the reply was

I said : i cannot telnet or ssh into my site.
TELSKUM : uum, hold on.............. Are you using a windows machine
I said : Yes ?!
TELSKUM : Oh, we have disabled it.
I said : WHAT ! , WHY ???? Are you telling me that i cannot telnet or ssh, then this ADSL is useless to me,
TELSKUM : Yes. you can cancell it by calling 0800500200
I said : CLICK!! . ASSH*LE, you dont know what you are talking about.

according to my knowlage, tcpip does not depent on the operating system, again i got trough to a ADSL engineer.

*yawn*

No, SAIX block ICMP >=96Bytes, which means windows traceroute is blocked.

Previous posts point to the problem cause. As a follow-on, I would recommend you seriously look at using Linux - it costs you nothing and you have the freedom of doing that which you need to do without being constrained by proprietary code, including being able to ping/telnet/ssh at will...

So who reads BOFH? :>

sounds like telkom have been taking notes.
