Hi I bought the 8ta 10gig deal about 2 months ago and I'm at the end of my tether. I cannot seem to play any sort of game with it no matter what. I stay in res at UCT and so 3G is my only option but I seem to get great speeds and signal strength and I'm pretty pissed right now since ill be locked into a contract for two years and all Ill be able to do with it is browse.

dude, it's WIRELESS

With wireless the latency would be too high to play games. Write this down as a life lesson. Make sure you can use the connection for what you want it for BEFORE locking yourself into a 2 year contract.

Having said that, I suggest you go read up on the Consumer Protection Act. In it states you have the option to cancel any long term contract by giving x amount of business day notice. But make sure what kind of penalties you will be liable for BEFORE you do that (and FYI, they can't force you to pay for all 24 months upfront because of the new CPA act, however, there will be a penalty)

Wireless can give problems and adsl is better for gaming but dont listen to him, I easily get 40ms most of the time for bf3 and it's smooth other than the odd lag spikes and network problems. You may have other problems, do a good local ping test and paste here.

I'm quite pleased with 8ta for gaming.

Work on your signal quality. Post here your signal strenght. This would give some indication what you can do with it. Do you have stable Cell ID during connection? To test this and more download mdma. I know that 8ta can be unstable even with strong signal, not neccessary in your case, so you should try.

not true, myself, and many other people use 3g for playing online games, WoW and so on works perfect on it, 25 man raids is no issue. no matter what i do in wow for example my latency stays at 390 pretty much 24/7... sure adsl will be a bit lower but u wont ever notice it even, and certainly 3g "wireless" isnt unusable for games

You say "browsing only". WTF, can't you download programs, youtube or GoogleEarth? Can you upload stuff? Oh ok, I see, you say you ONLY can browse :-( Fortunately the monthly payments are not to high.

Wireless gaming is not nearly as bad as it used to be, even less than what you claim it to be.

With 8ta i get around 50ms ping in CoD4, ~290ms in WoW (and that's in the evening in main cities), very good SC2 performance, and decent LoL play on US servers.

I have the 10gb 8ta package.. when i got this in November 2011 the speeds /latency was amazing..... 35-40 on local servers and 200 on European servers.. I had no lag / spikes or any issues ... played cod4 / bf3 / League of legends/ black ops ...

I was over the moon by this.... but for the last 2 months its been really bad...

This is due to congestion . basically too many users...

3g is amazing and very stable and gives you a low ping...

ITS ALL UP TO THE ISP( 8ta) .. which ATM is terrible.....
