Hello,
I am having an annoying problem with uploading pretyy much anything anywhere. I cannot upload attachments to forum posts for instance and with facebook i have to upload tiny pictures one at a time for them to upload properly, and videos will upload the first 0.01 MB then stay stuck at an upload speed of 0.01 KB/s or something insane like that. My upstream connection is, however, 384 kbps. So surely this isn't normal? I have tried turning off my firewall (Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security) but the problem persists. Running IE7 (i am running Vista Ultimate btw) in no add-ons mode also does nothing. So basically im hoping someone on here can help me sort this out.

Thnx very much,
James

Have you tried another browser?
Try Opera. I find IE can be rather unstable with uploads. ;)

Ok I tried a few things. I downloaded and installed both mozilla firefox and opera and tried to add an attchment to a forum post I have been trying to post for ages now. The page either takes forever to load (or upload attchment etc) and eventually comes to an error, or it just refreshes the page (it would appear). Same with uploading on facebook. I tried uploading a video which was about 10.6 MB and it uploaded the first 0.01 MB then the upload speed reduced to virtually 0 again. I tried one of the speed tests (the sentech one). I chose a high res image which was about 1.7 MB and my upload speed came out to be about 309.46 kbps wich is what I would expect as on my router settings page it says my upstream connection is 384 kbps. So... well my router is a wireless netgear dg834g. Here is some info from my router settings site:

Modem
ADSL Firmware Version 5.00.03.00
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 4096 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 384 kbps
VPI 8
VCI 35

I don't know if this helps. Oh, and by upload synch speed do u mean upstream connection?

Upload|Uplink speed basically the same thing, let's not get into connection bcos there are different interpretations to the word connection, e.g. 'connection' the ADSL DSLAM port and ADSL ISP Account connection and TCP/IP connection, all of which are different things.

My advice is that you try and find a speed test site that is hosted in the same country as Facebook, the same goes for that forum you're trying to upload to, and specifically test your upload speed.

Its Telskommel.
I had the same issue a while back. Dismal speeds up - normal speeds down.
Nothing "looked" wrong - it just did not work.

Got Telkom out, they reseated the DSLAM and it worked again....

Ok so what exactly do i need to do? Do i need to call telkom? I can't find which country facebook is in...

The DNS A records indicate that facebook.com is hosted in the USA, so basically try a speed test that is also hosted in the USA.

IMO the fact that a local speed test site [the Sentech one] showed that your upload speed was [at that time] 309.46kbits/s, should indicate that it is not a DSLAM issue, so your line should be fine, it is more likely to be an issue with Telkodemonopolies-SAIX - perhaps a regional issue of some sort - you might want to mention what general area & province you are in - in case others in the same region can confirm similar problems.

I won't say it cannot hurt to call Telkodemonopolies considering how incompetent the beast is, but maybe give 0800375375 or your ISP a call and have the upload issue logged as a fault...

Hmmm ok. Well I have noticed something strange but i dont know if it means anything. Whenever i try to upload anything whether it's a photo to facebook or a random file for an upload speed test, the uploading seems to work (ie i see the progress bar for the upload fill p etc) but when it comes to "awaiting response from" whatever server it just freezes. This happened with the Los Angeles speed test here: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and also when I try to ulpoad pics in facebook. Is this significant. I may very well try telkom or mweb (my isp) if this continues. Oh and i live in Constantia in Cape Town Southern Suburbs...

It probably is significant, but I think you need to lodge a complaint with MWeb and make your problem MWeb's problem so that MWeb can make the problem Telkodemonopolies-SAIX's problem, and hopefully it will be solved [don't hold your breath though], just keep bugging MWeb until it gets sorted out - it is what you're paying MWeb more than double the rate charged by any other SAIX-ADSL reseller ISP. Let us know what happens along the way...
