Hi,

I'm on Telkom ADSL and recently my internet has been dropping alot forcing me to access 10.0.0.02 in my browser and resetting my connection. But recently my 'main' computer can no longer open 10.0.0.02. I've been using my other computer on the network to reset my modem which was annoying, but now that computer is broken, I have no way to reset my modem settings.

It's not my browser - I've tried Internet Explorer (just gives me a white page after entering password/username) , Mozilla (white page also), Google Chrome (Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error).

Can anyone please help because the next time my internet crashes I won't really be able to reset...

You can force an IP refresh by opening a command prompt and use the following two commands :

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

if your PC is set up for DHCP.

1)Double click on your network connection icon,
2)click on properties under general tab,
3)Double click on Internet Protocal (TCP/IP),
4)Check your default network gateway IP, if not the same as your current modem's IP, change it. Or make sure you select automatically attain IP address.

Try login your modem again.

I tried ipconfig/release and restarted my PC and still not fixed.

My Ipv4 default gateway is 10.0.0.2. I'm on Vista so network properties are different so I just used ipconfig and my default gateway is 10.0.0.2.

10.0.0.02 redirects to 10.0.0.2 anyway.

ipconfig /release and /renew won't work if your NIC is statically configured anyway.

Clutching at straws here, but you could try arp -a to get a list of your cached ARP entries. Unfortunately it's looking like you may need to reset to factory defaults. Next time just use DHCP and save yourself a bit of pain :)

Just to update - the PC I was running back when I started this thread burnt out so I got a totally new PC using Windows 7 RC as my OS.

I was able to access my 10.0.0.2 fine on it for the past 3 days until a few minutes ago - just after I installed a windows update for Office 2003 :S

Strange..

he can see the login page and can use the router as a gateway, so the problem is probably not at the IP level. to verify, go to "Start | Run | cmd | OK" and type:
ping 10.0.0.2

If you receive a reply from 10.0.0.2, then your IP configuration is correct.

To check whether the web interface is really up (and that you are not seeing Internet Explorers cache):
telnet 10.0.0.2 80
If it connects, type "GET /" and press enter twice.

You should receive a "401 Unauthorized" response.

Some routers allow you to configure which IP addresses have HTTP access to the router. Did you perhaps set this to the IP of the other machine?

Is the router getting hot/warm?
Does it have proper ventilation?
How old is it?
What brand?

Make sure your power supply is making good contact.

You could also try and update the firmware.

I've seen a few of the (Telkom branded) Billion routers fail after 2-3 years of use. First symptoms were glitches similar to this.

My ipconfig:

I recieve a reply from 10.0.0.2.

With telnet I get a "Unkown 400 Bad Request" error.

I didn't set any IPs or fiddle with anything. My settings have been the same for a while.

The router isn't that warm, it's got proper ventilation, it's about a year old maybe slightly older, it's a Mega 105WR.

I tried updating the firmware . .

Could you upload those images to MyBB in the "gallery" section and link to here?

Hard to see if one is capped.

If your getting a 400 error it means there's nothing wrong on the IP level. A 400 error is that the web server (router) does not recognize the data send from your client.

Have you tried another browser? Have you tried a factory reset of the router?

+1

Most web servers accept "GET /\r\n\r\n" even though is it not a valid HTTP request. Doesn't really matter, it means the web server is up and he is able to connect to it.

I think you need to do a factory reset followed by a firmware upgrade.

Like I said before, I've tried google chrome, ie, firefox etc.

The thing is I can access my modem fine with my iPhone which is connected to the network on wifi. I could also access it with my laptop, and I could access it for about 3 days after just installing Windows 7 (after not being able to access it on my previous 'main' computer). This must mean there's something specifically wrong with the way this computer is connecting to the modem... I can't figure it out.
