There was some downtime yesterday (Saturday) in Cape Town, I'm not sure if it was Cape Town as a whole, or just my area (CBD) but it was down for a very long time.

It's back up now (obviously) but I'd like to know what happened.
Prior to it happening, my speeds were horrible and yes, I have PM'd Neotel rep now to find out why, but since it's back up, nothings changed, except, on my device, top right hand corner, in between EVD0 & the battery indicator is a "key"

Never seen that before... :)

Eish... You're doing enough to keep me away from them. :(

I promise PmP, that is not my intention, but if there is a problem, I like to fix it.

Voicing it in a thread also helps new users down the line (if they use the search function) to find and see a problem and fix it.

I met a chap at the Maynardville Carnivalle from MyBB (other than rph72) and he was under the impression that 50kb is normal for his Prime Uncapped, when I told him I was getting 150kb a sec - he was like shocked - cause Mr is not exactly a rocket scientist, but at least he knows that when he pays for X - he should get YZ.

JHB (well at least Parkhurst, and according to the helpdesk Sandton, Randburg, etc) was down as well just after 7pm, back up again but no visible increase in speed.

Yeah, I understand.

But the problem is 50KB (about 490kbps) is well within the average speeds they claim.

So perhaps it's always random, between 300kbps and 2048kbps?

Somerset West was down yesterday. Voice was still working (x1) but EVDO would not connect even though device did indicate EVDO availability. Not pased as I had two 3G modems with me this weekend (personal and work modem).

But things are up again. Must say that I still have less downtime on Neotel than what I had on Telkom.

Seems like the whole network has gone belly up again. Can't connect at EVDO since Friday 5pm. Pretoria area.

My RSSI is 62 for the 1st March 2009.
My software on my device is BC2703-R00.02:19

If everyones the same I wonder...

Because this 'keypad lock' function was not on my phone prior to all the problems coming Friday, and now it's here - which I don't mind of cause (having the feature).

Then check here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=160118

Now check, according to my latest tests (which I sent to Neotel rep) my line is really buggered...

This is the latest from "speedtest.neotel.co.za"

Last Result:
Download Speed: 597 kbps (74.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 48 kbps (6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Whereas, I was getting: 25-02-2009, 04:58 AM
Last Result:
Download Speed: 1359 kbps (169.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 63 kbps (7.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Doesn't matter... I know what I'm supposed to be getting, and I'm not getting it anymore.

I can't just get "X" for the 1st 2 weeks of having my line, then it changes... then it's true what everyone says... they keep you happy for a week or so and then the 'problems' come.

You're supposed to be getting between 300kbps and 700kbps on average, with a maximum of 2048kbps.

"X" is not average. :(

Speeds SUCKS!!!

You guys seem very lucky getting these speeds, I have not gotten more than 100kb/s on average since I got my line, about a month now....Loggin calls sending emails....but no luck with Neotel's support team...

Empty Promises, I am not even getting a third of the lowest promised rate...

Hope they get something done here, otherwise they will be losing a hell of a lot of clients....

I would like to know if the [-]line[/-] connection is really buggered or whether you're just getting "average speeds between 300 and 700Kbps" (in which case, AFAICS, you wouldn't be able to complain).

Must be a typo on their website, surely that "K" is meant to be lower-case.

Whether the K is lower or upper case is irrelavent as it always denotes killo. The only character that is relevant in KBps vs Kbps is the "b." Lower case denotes bits while uppercase denotes bytes. Whether you type Kbps (uppercase K) or kbps (lowercase k) really doesn't matter as it still stands for killobits per second. ;)

True, true. :D

I'm used to seeing bits with no capitalisation. :p

2 friends in the area (who I didn't know went Neotel Prime Uncapped) are having the same issues, one says 'since Thursday' while the other is the same as me which is since Friday.

It's getting worse!!!

My line dropped 6x since 5pm!

Last Result:
Download Speed: 466 kbps (58.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 57 kbps (7.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

I've been monitoring my downloads all day, yesterday it was 60-70KB/sec

Today, since I've got home, it's been at max of 40KB/sec.

Neotel rep was online today but did not respond to my PM's!!!

Okay, well, I've sent a e-mail to [email protected] and phoned the 0800 number and left a 2nd voice mail.

I'm making notes of all the information so that when I do go make a scene, I got myself covered.

How are you covered in the first place if you're getting within the average speeds?

Am I missing something?

You know, for someone whose in IT and not a Neotel customer.

Service is getting worse... soon I'll have no service or a 56k connection - currently, I'm bordering on the server just being WITHIN average!
