Cape Town Fire/Smoke Alert Thread

As I'm not with the VWS this year, I can't help you guys, I have no idea when they are at fires or what not - besides, if I knew and I posted anything, they'd probably get very upset if I posted any information.
Even Facebook is quiet - basically because new rules state we (they) can't Tweet/Facebook infromation about fires.

I know there was a fire on Signal Hill yesterday, but it was a small one, it was out as soon as it started and I know the Overberg has been having some crazy fires - it's insanely hot outside so fires will be plenty this fire season.
I hope all the new recruits are racking up fire hours! :D

Fire at Firlands/Sir Lowry's choppers back, still burning. Anyone in the area who can supply ice water, energy drinks and sandwiches please. Drop at command post at Firlands entrance gate on GB road, thankz

Rather large fire happening in Strand currently.

REST or Refreshing Emergency Services Together

We are loading the cars with bottled water and heading out to Strand where about 300 brave firefighters are battling a large vegetation fire. Please keep these awesome men & women in your thoughts and pray for their safety as they battle the blaze.

Myself and my girlfriend are going out to Strand fire to help them.

I don't see it either, but I do smell it.
I did see the 2x Huey's leave and head back to Newlands early today.

Yeah I saw them too flying around Sir Lowry's. Was some smoke then but could not see where it was coming from. Was in Strand around midday and did not see anything

I'm not sure hey, but the wind is hectic in Somerset West (Where I currently am) so I can be it will be worse in Strand.
Suffice to say, REST have alot of contacts in the Fire services so they won't be going out there for nothing and I like seeing the people of REST because they are a pretty cool bunch so I'm going to just say HI and help where needed.
They pretty much do everything "for the love of it"

Indeed not doubting the reports just strange can't see much smoke taking the wind consideration. So you based in SSW now?

The fire was the fire at the Steenbras dam side, it's under control now, but there was alot of fire fighters there and still there. So the fire was not actually in Strand, but they were told to take their stuff to Strand as it is the closest fire station to the fire in question.

For those who are interested, I suggest you join and support REST. They always welcome any support they get.

I'm going to let Lianne from REST know so she can make contact with FIRE & RESCUE and see if they need REST to go that way at some point but they did drop off LOTS of water last night.
Alan, if you're on Twitter or what not, just Tweet @REST_Refresh

They are always keen to help if it is needed.
