Nasty fire in Betty's Bay

A fire raged through Betty’s Bay on Wednesday night damaging or destroying at least six houses and leaving residents little time to escape. “Get out! Apparently massive mountain fire in Vredehoek area. According to a Facebook post some have been told to evacuate already.

This is from West Beach which is quite a way away so it just shows how strong the wind is.

There are reports of evacuations and more property destruction in Pringle Bay where a wildfire is raging. Volunteer Wildfire Services says a Working on Fire spotter plane and chopper are assisting Overstrand ground crews and vehicles. Working on Fire says a second helicopter is also assisting.

Authorities have confirmed at least three homes have been damaged.

Apparently it started as a burning vehicle on the N2 but is now spreading up and over the mountain.
