Hey everyone

I spoke to the principal of our school a short while back about perhaps setting up a high site at our school, to serve the WUG for everyone.

We are up in Wynberg, in the hills, and from the "south" or back side of the school building , we have a huge vista of the Southern Suburbs. I will see if I can post a photo to explain what I mean.

The principal sounded interested, but said that he would need to meet with some of the people in charge first, and find out things like what the high site needs power wise, resources from us, possibility of lightning damage, general stuff like that.

If anyone is interested, let me know, and I can arrange a meeting with the principal.

Let me see about posting that photo quick

EDIT: I can't find a decent pic of the view. Millions of photo's of everything but the view. I took pics with my cell but it's not a true version of what's here.

Also, there are plenty of trees around, but if you mount on the roof, it goes over the majority of them.

Will try to find a decent pic soon

Great news Asha'man X, why not join us on irc to have a chat or otherwise pm me with contact details and I'll get someone that deals with new highsites to contact you ASAP.

Hi guys

Apologies for the delay, I've been swamped at work, but am more free now for a bit.

I finally got around to using Google Earth yeaterday (for the first time) to plot where our school is. I have the KML file now, should anybody need it.

@ acidrain

No it's not Wynberg Boys, but it's basically around the corner. I don't want to mention the name in public, but we are next to the M3.

@ Kloon

I'll be sending you a PM shortly. I finally got myself a decent free IRC client, so I should be able to pop on more often now.

Here's to progress :)

Hi waheed

I don't understand your question? There are already lots of networks that are linked/meshed. As to documents, the information is unlimited. http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewforum.php?f=7

Lo pierrehugo

Those trees don't look to promising, ask the ctwug guys on irc if they can help you out.

Hi guys, thought I'd put it up here as no CTWUG admin has done it yet. CTWUG will be having a meeting this weekend. Everybody is welcome to attend. If you are interested in joining the WUG please guys try to attend this meeting so we can get an idea of what area the interest is in for future highsites.

For more info please read http://www.ctwug.za.net/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?4004.0 or visit the irc channel.

Great news guys, CTWUG now has a highsite in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. The site is located at 2-Military hospital in Wynberg and operates on both 2.4 and 5.8 frequencies. If you guys are interested in joining feel free to visit our forums at www.ctwug.za.net or come chat to us on irc.

always lekker to put up a new highsite - post the link to the pics here - those ctwug okes put up the site in the rain on a slippery asbes roof

Hi, im quite new to cape town and have really dont know much about this but am keen to try it out, im in the seapoint area facing to sea but have spoken to the guy who runs my flat and says i can put whatever I want on the roof if that'll help. But are there any highsites id be able to connect to?

Hey everyone

After quite a long stall, I'm looking at joining the WUG again. Since the new site in Wynberg is up, it helps a lot.

I've measured my distance in Google Earth, it computes at roughly 5.60KM. The elevation at Mercury is 88-92m, at my home it is roughly 12m.

I see that Mercury does both wi-fi frequencies.

What kind of aerial would you guys recommend to be able to join? I have set my eyes on a Routerboard already, plus the wireless card. Also, how high a mast do you guys think would be needed? I know that this is very much a trial and error procedure of course.

Also, if I had more than one radio card, could I have one set for CTWUG and the other for Loem? Best of both worlds :)

Thanks guys
