Cape Town WIFI mesh nets

Anyone in Noordhoek, Capri, Sun Valley area? My house is in Capri at very the top of the mountain running parallel to black hill / glencairn highway. A few friends and I have been quite interested in setting up a point to point node for a while now. Also I will be moving into a flat that is getting built onto the house which we are building up to the maximum height (7m I think), so I will have a even better field of view by the end of this year. I still need to get equipment though...

Hi Defiler, please plot your location on wind: wind.ctwug.za.net and come and chat with us on the IRC channel: http://wiki.ctwug.za.net/index.php/CTWUG_IRC

We are currently expanding CTWUG quite a lot and I would love to see where you and your friends are. Perhaps we can find a way to link up. If not, you are still more than welcome to come and chat on the IRC channel so we can keep in touch. Just because we cannot link now does not mean we won't link some day... :D

I've recently been chatting with the folk from CTWuG online and they are VERY friendly and helpful. I have requested a test kit and if I can get a good enough signal I will def be joining the network AND post my findings here.

Enigma, even if you get zero signal now, we are planning a high site very close to you. Make sure you are kept in the loop so we throw some coverage your way :D

Pity there is NOONE near Strand. Would have loved to join this network :(

Dyanamo, I know :( If you want to come and chat with us on IRC and perhaps we can work together to get a Strand WUG going. Then we can work towards linking up the two networks in the future.

There is an available site in strand, but no one has come back to me regarding setting anything up

hey acidrain,

Who told you there is a CTWUG Highsite in Strand? Unfortunately we don't have coverage in the Strand area yet.

You can have a look at http://wind.ctwug.za.net/ to see the location of our higsites and their coverage.

No one told me and I never said there was a high site... i merely stated there is a site ( general meaning being ground/area/roof/building for potential equipment )

Toady I keep on forgetting this is you, I only realized after posting the reply. I miss read your post, sorry :o.

I have a few pictures of what I would think is a ideal spot for Strand. Its on one of the roofs of World View hll in Helderview. The house over looks all of Strand and most of Somerset West and possibly even has LOS of Cape Town. Ill post the pictures shortly.
PS: I didnt climb on the roof but was at the base of house, but pictures are pretty good of the potential this place has.

Hey all. Registered on Ctwug & think my brother & I are gonna join up. See that ToxicHS should be my LOS.

Was wondering what kind of pings users experience on game servers & data transfer speeds.

Cheers from the n00b.

Righto, first point, ToxicHS is actually a LOEM network, so your second Q has a ? as an answer, on ctwug sites, depend, if you just connect to one of our HS's it's from 10kb/s to 1mb/s typically. If you do yourself and the wug a favour and organize some more links between fellow wuggers you can reach up to 5MB/s (note case) on some links.

Pings at night when we have game time is typically below 10ms in command line, cod4 shows 40ms-90ms, 90ms being when something isnt 100% right. We had a lovely 20 man game last night... sigh :)

Update time, We've managed to secure another highsite for CTWUG, and it's up and running as of 4pm yesterday. The new site's name is Venus (it's a theme we have) and should cover most of tableview.

Thanks goes out to rellik, savagedavid, and savage, Stolla and Snowdrops for they're time, and effort.

Stolla: sorry you had to miss one of the nicer rugby games to watch, ons hoop dit was die moeite werd.

People can find the site plotted on http://wind.ctwug.za.net.

Some other sites we have already:

Saturn - Stikland/brackenfell/kuilsriver
Mars - Goodwood/Parow
Pluto - Plattekloof
Jupiter - Plattekloof/Brackenfell
Neptune - Richwood/Bothasig
Mercury - Wynberg (thanks toads)
