Hi There, I'd recommend a Grid, for both 2.4 and 5.8 Ghz, you can post queries on www.ctwug.co.za and/or www.ctwug.za.net, we'd spot the thread easier.

Back to the antenna, 5.8 has smaller antennas for a given gain, I rekon a 24 or 27dbi grid should work 100%

Excuse an extremely stupid question, but from experience, no question is a stupid question, but an off the wall question.

From what I know, Anntena Frequencies are fixed so a 2.4 Ghz grid will on work on 2.4 Ghz Wireless Router and a 5.8 Ghz grid will work on 5.8 Ghz Wireless Equipment.

The general advise seems to be to go the 5.8 Ghz route if you can.

However, I want to go in stages starting off with a LinkSys wrt54g I already have, which restricts me to 2.4 Ghz Grid.

Now the stupid question.

Can you get a grid that will work on 2.4 Ghz and can also be used on 5.8 Ghz
If not, can you interchange the tranmitter horns, like changing an LNB on a DSTV Dish from Single LNB to Dual LNB.

Dont personally know of a grid that can do both frequencies, but if you buy a 31dbi 5.8 grid you can just swop the feed with a 24dbi 2.4 feed and all should work fine. And ofcoarse your radio must be capable of both frequencies.

What's happened to the CTWug website? Everytime I try to access it, I get a HTTP 403 Forbidden error. Tried .co.za and za.net, both give same result.

Most of the work/integration/migration was done by Kloon.

And also thanks to tfyre that installed the server full of linux goodness.

It is people like them that make ctwug a great community!

hello to the mesh community of the western cape . I am in the Paarl area. I went through the logs and see that there are 2 members of the area- mailman and mantis . Are you only linked locally or are you part of the whole mesh net?

CTWUG currently has no connectivity in the Paarl area. Our coverage currently stretches from Kraaifontein in the North to Wynberg in the South.

Ongelukkig is dit nie 'n lattice nie, maar dis 3 x 3 meter pale, wat met 5 triangle brackets vas gehou word met 1m sye. Ek moet se , Wetkit het homself oortref met die toringkie, en die feit dat hy alles gesponsor het.

Hoekom kan ons nie n kleiner toring maak nie? dis net 3 pale in n driehoek en jy weld 5 of 10mm roundbar met n "zig-zag" pattern? Dan jy kan dit powder-coat.

Die nuwe mars toring werk maar dit lyk nie lekker vir die oe nie.

The Current tower was made so we could stay low (3m) and still have enough space nect to each other for the grids not to interfere with each other. Small mast sounds nice though. Should be nice to make too.
