Diep River, id say Mercury is your best bet. From my house in Southfield, i can literally see the building the equipment is on.

OK guys, for those of you that have been stranded out in Strand, Somerset-west and Gordonsbay, CTWUG have finally arrived :)
We have a new HS, called TRITON, covering most of the area.
So if anybody is interested, come and chat to us.

Hi Guys,

I'm very interested in contacting the developers of the CTWUG site - does anyone know how to contact them?

Will the WUG ever get involved with an ISP to provide some sort of internet connectivity?

I'm sure this has been discussed before but some sort of official stance from the founders of the CTWUG would be very much appreciated. I have recently become quite interested in the CTWUG, I just wish there was some sort of internet connectivity associated with it.

Internet over the WUG would make the WUG totally illigal in the eyes of ICASA, so I would have to say no.

Micro Wave, if you look on the website all will be revealed.

That sucks. I didn't realise that. Is there somewhere that I can read about why it is illegal (I see now that there is a single line about it on the WUG wiki, but I would like a more detailed reason as it seems kind of silly).

I suppose it would make the WUG some sort of internet reseller then? But at that point surely we could all just pitch in for a license or something and spread the cost of a large connection? I fail to see how that would be illegal (plus if it were to happen I would get connected yesterday as I could finally have cheap broadband internet!).

Anyway as you can see it confuses me, but I would really like to know more about why we couldn't do that, then at least I could rant on an informed basis :D

Thanks wetkit - I scoured it before I posted, but couldn't find any contact details... can you point a blind guy in the right direction please?

It's illegal because in order to allow internet one would need a license for it, else there is big k@k.

The problem with this then is the WUG will be commercialised, and then will have to sustain a certain uptime percentage ( what thats for im not sure but i've heard registered wisps have to have a certain uptime percentage ).

Another reason why it has not been done, apart from it commercializing, is the network runs purely on a no-cost basis. Once you introduce paying customers, there will be never ending complaints when something doesn't work and in turn puts immense pressure on the admins to fix it, who already only have time to when they are available. At the moment when something goes down, it only gets fixed when there are people free to do so. With providing a service it would have to be fixed within a given time ( i.e. an hour or so ), time which the admins wouldn't have available.

Anyway as you can see it confuses me, but I would really like to know more about why we couldn't do that, then at least I could rant on an informed basis :D
Hope that helps the understanding

Hi Micro Wave, please join us on the IRC channel, most of the people are online at night (just before 8pm. At 8pm everyone disappears for some reason... very odd)
