Hi

I am curious about something: I run a capped account and downloaded data from a local site over the weekend that exceeded my cap. Subsequently I have no international cap left. I find that curious because my cap allows quite a large amount of local access?

It is not hard for an ISP to track local and international traffic and where it is coming from/going to - they do that already. My ISP has already acknowledged that the traffic on my account was primarily local, but I can temporarily upgrade to cure the problem. However my point is that there shouldn't be an issue in the first instance as the primary usage was local?

Any comments?

Thank you.

Welcome!

Yeah, it's a pretty stupid rule and one that has been debated many times on this forum. It's something that, like many things with South African "broadband" just don't seem to change. Along with, cap size, line rental, cost, etc etc.

They can see howmuch International you've used, and howmuch local :>> But why can't they cap u only internationally once you've reached your 3gig international mark then... ?? No, they cap u once you've used up 3gigs of data.. Wether it was Local or International.. Stupid SA

there's no debating that it sucks that the first 2/3GB are used regardless of local/international. I am sure there must be a reason why this isn't already implemented.

This topic has been discussed over and over and over all around this forum, basically telkom screws us all

Indeed, stand and deliver!! Just another days work for some!!

Hey! Correct me if Im wrong, but isn't there supposed to be new regulations in place concerning your local bandwith? Technically your local data transfer shouldn't count towards your international cap anymore, as effective since 17 August.

Maybe everyone hasn't caught on yet?

technically we should all have over 4 mbps adsl lines, but we dont :P Thats how telkom calculates usage so thats how we get billed.

hmmm, you'll have to wait a bit for that. They supposed to start in july, then they said august. Now they're not even saying when
