Capped LTE issue - Suddenly bad pings at night

So I've had capped 100GB LTE for about 9 months. I've been gaming on it no problem for all that time. Excellent pings, consistent downloads etc.

About a week ago, at night my local ping would rise from about 20ms to 120ms, and my international ping from 200ms to 300ms.

Downloads are still relatively ok. Connection speed was give or take 6MB.

Now i've moved to a new house, where the connection speed is around 30MB in the day, with 20ms. At night, again, my pings just while downloads are still ok (around 10MB).

Is this a sudden shaping policy on Telkom's part? Is there something I can check or change? I can't really think of what. In the day everything is super fast but at night it slows down. Like I said, hasn't been an issue for 9 months and I doubt congestion picked up overnight to might it 4 times worse.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Sounds like you are connecting to the 1800Mhz band which allows a max of about 30Mbps down. If you have the Huawei B315 router on the latest firmware, you can manually select if available the 2300Mhz band.

Ah ok cool. Do you think that will provide more stable pings?

I have the router I got from Telkom. It's a Huawei, and looks like the B315 from the pics I see on the internet now.

I'll give this a go tonight.

Thanks man.

You'll have to test and tell us, i can't say for sure :).

If you see there is an update available, it is recommended to download the update manually and then do it. I'll try to find the post explaining this from sajunky :).

+1 I had crap speeds before I updated the firmware and switched to 2300mhz.
