Car advice

If you want to play safe then try this route - this is for selling and buying a car ...i should know this as i bought my car through them - u can negotiate with the seller as i paid 3K less than was advertised, the guy selling scored a job in London and didnt want to carry on doing car repayments for a car that would be gathering dust in a garage.

The whole theft debate is a non-issue to me, i've driven VWs for the last 6 years and have never had a problem. If the car is insured and installed with a tracking unit, the risk is minimal.

Ah yes, I remember this now. Someone else said they used it and it was well worth whatever the fee is that they charge. Will check it out. :)

Mine has been stolen twice. In broad daylight. In different places. In clear site. Once was just around the corner from a police station :o
 
Yes, that one is a bit of a dodgy one. But the shape of the car I wanted to show you.

You get some very nice ones out there. Don't let the age scare you. Those cars are industructable ;) I had one with a T66 on it and it never gave me any problems appart from the ones I caused :D

If I can find a nice one I'll buy it :o

Hehe, ok man. I hear what you are saying.

Edit: I do like the shape, when it has not been modded and what not ;)
 
You also the the other shape more of a hatch look (Sabre) 200GSi and also get newer models but the price increases with the year model ofc :p

Indeed. The Nissans were cars I was originally considering. I have heard good things about them.

The only reason I suggest these is because they fit your budget 100% with disposable cash if needed for some minor repairs. You can get very nice cars in the R 60k bracket I'm not saying get a Nissan. Just that for that price you can get a used 2nd hand car and make it just about brand new with the extra cash :)

It does sound like a good plan to me...

Going to weigh up the pros and cons and have a think about all the great feedback I have received here so far.

Look at getting aircon fitted in my trusty Velo and what that would cost and then see what I could get if I were to trade her in, based on what was said..
 
Don't think of diesels as being money-savers because of their economy. It takes too long to reap the benefit from their fuel efficiency. Rather think of them as cars with longer ranges and waaaaay more torque (and as having engines with different characteristics requiring a slightly different driving style)

There is a few things you need to know about a diesel to understand what he meant.

1. a Diesel needs to be driven a certain way. It's not a petrol car and you will prob end up breaking things if you don't drive it correctly = Money

2. You save a bit on the Fuel yes, however the maintenance on a Diesel is 4x more than with a Petrol engine.

2. 4x? Naaaaaaaaah. That's just crazy talk. So far my diesel is costing THE SAME on maintenance as my petrol. Just the equivalent petrol version costs less to purchase initially, that's all. [okay, so maintenance intervals so far have been slightly shorter with the diesel, so that means you pay for a service more frequently]

To have a Petrol engine replaced after a Broken piston = R 15k

To have a diesel engine replaced for the same make and model of my current Bakkie = R 40k :eek:

But that is worst case cenario though....
