CAR Magazine tests

Perfect Smooth... now you talking! :) Let's ban speeding and big cars! My pet hates : 4x4s that have never even touched soil before (and usually take up two parking spaces due to the fact that their driver's can't drive!!) and excessive speeding!

The biggest annoyance of mine is that I can drive well under the speed limit and still be wiped out by some guy who feels the need for speed on our public roads... and yes, I can also fall victim to a drunk driver or any other road offence but this does not mean I will take it any easier on my criticism of people who speed and think it is cool to do so...

i stand with you on this one, i would'nt like to have an accident because of some retard that thinks he's and f1-driver or they had to much to drink or they cant drive..

but the speeding thing could be avoided not 100% but most of it, i noticed while being back in SA for holiday that you guys fail to have race tracks.. in Europe then on every street corner:rolleyes:!! if you had more of them guys that think they could be the next F1-shumi could do so at there own risk and not at the risk of others have fun and if they crash well not anyone else fault except theres

hahaha when you say 4x4's you mean like BMW X5's and mercs and other luxurys but the only thing there good at is going up a steep pavements and going fast:p, real 4x4's cant speed well couse there either to heavy or there offroad:D

Well my point is that any combination of any amount of factors at any speed can kill in an accident, regardless of whether it's at 60km/h or 120km/h.

The problem I have is not speed, it's that our drivers are not equipped to handle speed. In fact most of our drivers are not even fit to drive at all. Our licenses are fairly straightforward to get - do a few moves in the yard, drive for a bit, check your blindspots when you stop, etc. - all fairly pointless exercises in real world conditions.

Any buffoon with half a brain can get one after a few tries, so you're bound to get a few irresponsible idiots. I think that if the procedure for obtaining a license was more controlled, it would certainly help with weeding out the hopeless retards who have to resort to buying one. And even then, people should be taught driving skills, not just clutch control and getting the car to move. We all know what happens when it rains, and that is because people were not taught how to actually handle a car (even though a few morons think they can).

Yeah, well maybe 2010 and guatrain and whatnot can provide adequate and safe public transport and then less driving of private cars would be needed. I'd love to hop on somethign in Menlyn and be in Midrand half an hour later like I can with my car.
 
I'm starting to see what is actually being said here by a few people ...

My exgirlfriend had a head on collision on William Nicol about 3 years ago. The truck that hit her saw the car in front of him stopped and swerved into the opposite lane and hit her.

Now - to me - it was negligence and recklessness. But to others speed was to blame because they were moving - two stationery objects can have an accident can they?

Within days, my grandfather had another accident and ended up writing off his brand new Bantam. Another car simply did a U turn in front of him on Jan Smuts and he ended up T-boning him. Again - we see it as negligence and recklessness but speed probably had a factor as both cars were moving ...

Using this (warped) logic that things qucker than stationery = speed ... I'd need to agree with you.

I SERIOUSLY doubt the Type R loses soooo much power up here, coz I tear the crap out of that car.

So with these times can you still take on a PGti Mr Dolby? Didnt think so.
And the Citi 1.8i looks like it can give you a hiding!:p

And Adamr using your GPS phone application managed a faster time in his M3.

Doldy, but one thing i can tell you is the race btw you and the 1.8Citi is a drivers race. But i will put my money on the Citi, pocket rocket... :cool:

we are talking about a Toyota here, thier yaris sedan is a 1.3:confused:

Yip - many of the cars listed are drivers races ... quite a few variables etc I've lost on quick dash to 100km/h against a Fiesta ST - and won some. Both these losses and wins are within metres.

And I say the same of a Polo GTI : it'll be close ...

About a cars length, couldnt see him in my side mirror or review mirror, he must have been next to my back tyre behind me.
Had a couple of runs down Rivonia, every robot caught us, then we'd go again!:D
