Okay, as many of you will know, I finally got my learners yesterday!
Yeah, finally, blah blah blah.

Now I wanna get a car, I can't drive, but I want to learn on it, and eventually pass out with it.

I deal with alot of ads and such and many car places say you can get a car without a drivers which is pretty cool.

Now I ask you guys;

How would one go about this; what are the pro's and con's to this.
Let's all remember that I won't be driving the car on the roads till I can drive myself, I'll let my friends drive it etc.

My main aim is, I need to get wheels and yeah...

Ideas ?
Suggestions ?
Comments are welcome please.

 dont get caught drunk and passed out in your car... think as long as you arent in the driving seat its ok though :p

I dont let friends drive my car, purely because i can trust no1 besides myself in it. Too many idiots on the road doing to many idiotic things to risk putting your assets in somebody elses hands, unless you are completely covered by insurance and can take the risk.

Trust...

Ah Surv0, I trust my friends! :)

As for the drinking part, no, I won't do that, I'm not stupid. :D

As for insurance, something tells me, I won't get any insurance place to insure me till I get my drivers.

Indeed, unless you get your dad/mom to insure it under their names until you can take it over. Avoid driving without insurance, not only is it incredibly bad for you but anyone that your vehicle might drive into.

I still feel that all cars on the road should at least have 3rd party insurance incase they hit somebody else, but thats not the case here. If the guy that hit you is clearly in the wrong, and he doesnt have insurance.... you pay for the damage. Sucks big time, as there are many people in this country who drive like idiots and drive without insurance.

Just becareful :)

Okay, from what I've been told by a few people is the following:

U NEED TO HAVE A LICENSE TO GET BANK FINANCE! SO EITHER U WAIT OR GET THE FINANCE ON SOMEONE ELSE’S NAME???????

So, then I thought... since I don't have my drivers, I won't get bank finance that way, HOWEVER!!!

What If I was to take a personal loan (Eg: from FNB) for an amount that I want, say for argument sake, R45 000 and ya, pay it back over 54 months.

Could that be done?!?
Good idea? Not good idea?

They'll want something to use as surety, with a car loan they can always sell your (their) car to recoup costs if you fail to pay, they cannot sell you, if you default on personal loan payments!

That doesn't make sense, I've taken 3x loans out from FNB before but these were for like, small amounts (±R5000) (and paid them off)
Nothing bout surety then.
It does make sense of cause... but hmmmmmmmmm...

Didn't mention it before, but can't u maybe do your Drivers in Knysna, or somewhere?
Think u don't have to wait as long.

That's the thing, it was smaller amounts, so minimal risk.
Larger amounts they start getting stickier, they may well grant it - will just be more difficult; and with the new Credit Act...

I'm not sure if they allow that anymore... You have to do the tests etc in your 'area'

For example, I stay in CPT, so I must do it at Gallow Hills, but if I went to Goodwood or Ottery, I could probably get away with doing it there but going out to say Worcester or Knysna etc... that's not allowed anymore.

Yeah, I suppose if you have muchos income, they'll green light, then again, if there is loads of money, why the loan - pesky Catch-22

NCA got me all riled up when applying for the bond, a few sleepless nights!

Was just a panic knowing things are far stricter now. Had to sell the old house, and then not knowing if the new bond gets approved, could have been on the street.

But yeah, again bonds are easier for a bank, you default on payments, they simply claim their house back.

I'm checking the CapeAds now and I see a ad from Janjira Car Sales that says "Good instant finance available, no deposit, no license"

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems Janjira Car Sales can help me, however, they'll apply to the bank on my behalf and maybe I can get R30000 / R40000 loan type thing.

Any other costs I must expect?

So many of you have bought cars via banks etc... what else can I expect?!?!?
