Carnivore diet

I been Vegetarian with Dairy diet since birth (am in mid 50's now). Gym, relatively free of stress, no major ops or diseases at all.

Never had vaccines except for the usual Covid, that ****d up my immune system now.
I've been vegan for over 10 years (I can't exactly remember when I started, but it was before my currently relationship, which is over 10 years now lol).

I rarely get sick and when I do, I usually recover quite quick. I've had all vaccines. I believe in science

We cook our own food most of the time and there's usually some sort of TVP or tofu with all our meals. I'm fit, my weight is good and I feel healthy. By that I mean I don't feel like I've regressed health wise since going vegan.

When I went vegan it was very hard, especially going out for meals, but now it's super easy.

I don't know if this is related, but I look much younger than my age. People have told me they thought I was the youngest of us brothers, but I'm the eldest.

27kg's down since 8 January 2024.

Strict carnivore with no cheats: Meat (mostly beef ribeye that I buy in bulk), biltong from a trusted outlet that has no sugar, occasional eggs, water, coffee with a splash of milk, butter. No other diary. Dropped alcohol too.

Feeling great, many things improved. Has been easier to stick to than banting. Still have 7-8kg's to go to my goal I set myself for 2024.

Question regarding gout: I am still taking my 300mg of Puricos daily but not sure if I still need it. I will get around to asking my Doc down he line, but has anyone gone off their Puricos while staying on Carnivore long term?

I went raw-vegan for a few months as an experiment. Had a similar experience - glowing skin, bundles of energy etc. (But I wouldn't advocate raw-vegan as a way of eating all the time.)

You're also not the first to report this as far as I've seen.

I really can't help but wonder as a total layman on the topic whether going with one diet or the other realizes the same/similar benefit not due to the elimination of processed junk and allergens, but due to how our gut microbiome and/or other aspects of our body might change/adapt to accommodate on being strict one way or the other. With the exception of auto-immune issues perhaps where something specific is required or to be avoided.

The elimination of processed foods and allergens "theory" falls a bit flat for me, because I could eat "Healthy" and change the types of meat and veg/fruit and still feel crap regardless.

Maybe the issue isn't that one diet is superior to the other. Maybe mixing it is the problem (vleis, rys, en aartappels), or being too varied in our diet that no or suboptimal adaptation can occur. Our body is surely like... "wtf boet make up your mind! Am I ketoing or glycolysing brutha!" :D Or that the diverse gut microbiome just needs to be so much more diverse to keep up with a mixed diet compared to a strict/minimal one. Makes sense, since early man would have likely stuck to the same food sources (Whatever was most abundant and rewarding) for extended periods without much variation, berries wouldn't just magically move into their neighborhood every third day.

And here we are getting bored with our meals if we eat the same thing all week, meantime provided it offers adequate nutrition we should. Hell we don't even tend to eat the same thing between breakfast and dinner. Can't even have chicken for more than 3 nights and be depressed about it (Well I could, but speaking of people in general).

Meh... maybe I'm talking rubbish. Just couldn't shake that thought.

Same. I look in my mid 30's - most people say.

My diet is mostly Dairy based products, lots of fresh farm milk and home-made ghee, fresh veggies and good rice. I dont ever eat out unless i am practically starving.

I do believe in Science lol, but Science that has been proven and has a good track record.

Well done on your wight loss, and enjoy the other benefits...

Been a carnivore for about 5 years now and still feel great.

This could help with your gout question:

Men who want to go vegan need to check their sperm count before they start, and a year in.

From one gout sufferer to another, go get your Uric Acid tested at any Lancet/Ampath. You can walk in and ask for it, no doctor necessary.

For gout sufferers, you'll want to keep your UA below 6 mg/dl (so ideally 5 and below). This in turn will also allow existing deposits to dissolve over time. You'll still get twinges, aches and pains, but you should never get full blown attacks.

This also gives you a yardstick to adjust your medication upwards or downwards based on lifestyle and diet.

Am so alpha male I eat only meat! Roooaaarrrh!

Compensating.. Get a life chop.

Will remove if OP wants because this is OT (@BSSA?)

@BSSA any thoughts on the issue of lectins?

So many YouTube vids about avoiding them, particularly from a Dr Grundy who I quite like but OMW literally nothing is safe. Plenty of people singing the praises of his diet.

This is one of his videos:

I just want to add not eating vegetables/fruits is stupid in my view. You will live but the quality of your health will suffer. It is more than just nutrients, it's phytochemicals etc. Something meat can't give you.

I don't have a view on lectins, but I obviously don't consume them.

I don't like fruit or vegetables. I only like plants that have been processed (chips, bread, pastry etc).

That's why it really wasn't difficult to ditch them completely in favour of meat only. Mentally, I know processed is unhealthy and natural plant food is unappealing to me.

Regarding long term health, Shawn Baker the Carnivore MD is still a muscular beast after more than 5yrs Carnivore.

5 years isn’t really long term, and muscular beast isn’t an indicator of health.

Am I just being argumentative now? lol.
