Cell C cuts data prices by over 50%

Just in time, my prepaid 24gb whoosh stick expires next month. Guess I will extend it.

Nice prices on the lower usages packages but now I will have to look at 8ta when my two 60 gig sims expire. I will not be paying R4499 per sim. I paid R1999 for each last year and the year before.

You've been on this forum for a year and you've never heard of Vodacom's OOB shark and their data prices?

If you don't have Cell C or 8.ta coverage, please ignore my post...:D

Jip, Vodacom charges R279.00 for a 1 GB prepaid bundle... I may be wrong, but I think that is the most expensive 1GB bundle on any network... correct me if I am wrong.

Why don't they match 8ta?

AND it seems cheaper to buy a modem + 24GB separately than together.

Get the 8ta 60GB promo? Their speed matches or exceeds Cell C where there is coverage! Promos until March 2013

May 2013, Alan resigns. And Cell is bankrupt...
Stupid stupid move Cell C, signalling "change" they cannot afford to sell data this cheap.

Sarcasm I am guessing?

They cannot afford to not sell data. This is better than not selling at all and not using the capacity they have rolled out.

That's the normal data bundle price, Cell C's 1.2GB data bundle costs R250 valid for 30 Days. This is a promo.

The last time Vodacom had a prepaid promo was the 20GB for R499 in November/December.

I have got a 8ta sim and have been testing it and it is not bad but not as good as my CellC connection. When my sims expire November I will buy the 60GB promo from 8ta and it is great that 8ta extended the promo.

One must assume that Vodacom will price match this sometime in 2013?

Most of Europe offer 2Gb of HSPA data at around R50. Some even give you free data, '3 UK' give 300Mb just for topping up your airtime each month!

Carlswald Midrand (084 694 0040) doesn't have stock and didn't know what promotion I was speaking of, even when shown a printout of this article. The lady claims they will probably only be briefed about the promotion in June.

Huh, how dumb of me. Last month I did sign a 2year contract with Vodacom. (2+2GIG) they already bit me in the arse with a double payment for the first month and I have given up hope of sorting it out. And the oob is much much worse with Vodacom WTF :( never ever I will sign a contract with them.

you can opt out of that contract, according to NCA.

Fair enough they signalling and inviting customers, its not the same as mobile, users can move away as fast as they join up, there is no guarantee of revenue on these products, all the CEOs in the past 2 years (minus 8ta i think)that broke these data price barriers have left, now their companies are "suffering".

I guess rather get users on the network than having an empty network, Cell C will be seeing red in another 12 month, no pun intended.

My personal opinion, Cell C should keep their prices stable, LTE will come soon to the the big networks, its a huge investment for them, Cell C I dont think will follow, they will stay on HSPA which is fine, then they drop prices, very early now...

If MTN don't meet or better the deals that 8ta and CellC have on offer, I'm jumping ship the day I'm due for my upgrade. I'm paying R49 for 75MB - daylight robbery in this day and age.

wooow. what can you do with that? a whole 75mb?

The logic of the new rates escape me. 24Gb of prepaid should be cheaper than postpaid as billing costs far less, and you also sit with the client's money up front. The pepaid deal should have been R699!

Just a question. Are postpaid deals cheaper over these networks because it improves their Credit Rating? I can't think why it should be cheaper than prepaid, other than this reason.
