Cell C Fibre vs other

The router is a wifi router(Actually a LTE Router with a option of WAN), provides extremely high speed and meant for WIFI usage.
The one port is used as a WAN so you only have one free for your PC. The router support VOIP phones and I connected 3 VOIP phones.
The LINE Service is great, good connection, good speed, good latency and very stable.

Support sucks, They tell you something and but down the road its opposite.
Example of issues:
CellC LTE Card is not connected but showing activated. They have no clue and said I should get another sim card. Then I cannot do a sim swap since the current sim card is not active. The Rep who said 'never ever speak to a call center again', email me saying I should contact Fibre support line.
THE BILLING IS a nightmare, I got issued Vumatel invoice and its over 2 months they never pay the invoice.
My friend over 12 months just got billed R1400 pm for a 50Mbps/50Mbps. His contract was a 12 months clawback and he put cancellation. He decided not to take router but got billed(already debit order),full connection fee, half installation, R999 router and 1 month penalty. After it cancelled another debit order of R1400 went through, they still never refund him. Only last week they send him credit and statement with the R1400 but no news on the refund.

My 5 year old trendnet router is a wifi router. It's a bit anti-social though in that it doesn't like more than one wifi device connected.

If only they'd told me before hand that there'd only be one free network connection. I'm sure I mentioned during our meeting that I needed to connect my CCTV via network cable.

Good to know. I actually haven't inserted by sim card yet. I was also told 12 months clawback by the rep, but I'm guessing that the contract says 24 months.

Easy Tiger, I understand, I am refering to the majority use, which is to download pirate material.

I will test torrents again tonight, but odd, as I had about 10 loaded, and not 1 even found a peer.

I have re-tested the torrents, and they are working 100% Not sure what happened the first attempt.
I tried private and public trackers, all working great!

Anyone got the 100mb/50mb from CellC on Openserve in Cape Town ? I am very curious about this package, because if you do the maths, it's actually very appealling.

I have also never had an issue with CellC as a mobile customer... but I am very cautious about contracts, and my concern would lie with the 24 month period.

However, if the service and speeds are excellent, then you wouldn't care and would be happy to remain for 24 months anyway. :p

24 months before you can cancel without paying for the installation and hardware, its month to month so you can cancel if you pay for it which I think is reasonable.

That is also what I am thinking..... I do have one concern: "Please note that installations on the Open Serve network are limited to 8 metres, the customer will be liable for any installation over 8 metres at a rate of R 182.40 per linear metre.".... now I am going to be on Openserve.... now 8m will take it into my garage... and based on this installation example: https://techcapetown.co.za/2015/05/19/cool-****-telkom-ftth/ ... this will suffice until the Fibre Modem (which doesn't need a power source). Then it would require a Cat5e or preferably a Cat6 ethernet cable to my router, which would be about 15 to 20 metres away. Now, my question is: do I pay R182.40 per metre of ethernet cable too ? .... because I do have my own cabling. But is it literally my only concern.... if anyone does know the answer to this, I would appreciate the feedback :D

Wait, not R180 for CAT, it's for the labour + fibre. They will run it right to wherever you want it.

Hmmmm, then CellC’s 8m of their part of their paid installation isn’t very much is it.... Openserve would have to terminate in my garage and then I would have to run the Cat 6 to my router.

Do Openserve charge per metre for the Cat 5/6 Cable they install to your router ?

Hi All,

Apologies for necro'ing this thread, but how is Cell C's fibre performance compared to other ISP's (cool ideas, CW,etc)?

a Buddy of mine got an awesome deal on a Cell C 100/100 account which will be active sometime next month. He just wants to know how the general performance is on this ISP. Is it comparable to something like Cool Ideas? How is the latency to EU servers (overwatch,WoW,etc)? Do you get full http/p2p/nzb download speed?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I applied for a C Fiber 100 package - they delivered the router to my office because I was not available at home - how soon do Vumatel come do what they have to do at my residence? Is there any way I can speed this up?

Sorry to say, but that thread doesn't really say much.

I'm also interested to find out how they perform in CPT on Vumatel and how their gaming and streaming are.

They aren't the cheapest, but the initial startup cost savings seems tempting.

According the sales person who I saw yesterday CellC pays the full installation up to where you want the Vumatel switch. No limit on the distance from the curb.

Apparently this is not the case with some other providers. With this said it could just be sales talk.

Like @Ripstorm I also would like to hear from other Cell C what their experiences are like. Maybe the lack of posts is a good sign.

One thing's for certain though, you get routed through joburg if you are in cpt which results in higher ping to overseas and cape town servers.

Remember these "free" options always have a clawback clause.

So in essence they "lock" you in for 2 years to recoup the cost of the installtion / activiation fee.

If you are not happy with their service after say 2 months, you will have to pay back the Vuma fees and activation fees that CellC covered initially.

Hi,

Claw back clause? What does it in-tale? I was considering a month to month contract.

Will also check with the sales guy who came to see me.

Thnx for the feedback.

Been with them since April 100/100 using my own router
No issues not once
Only thing it’s that you have no idea How much you download cos they don’t measure it
But I average 1.5TB a month through my logs

I've been on CellC fibre for a month now. 50/50 uncapped/unshaped @ R1099. Cape Town, northern suburbs. Pretty happy so far.
They paid for the Vumatel install, and supplied a router with a 1GB LTE simcard installed for failover (not automatic, you have to manually switch).
As part of the deal, the first 3 months are free, and this has been reflected on my monthly statement, where it shows a credit.
Speeds are generally very good. 20ms to Jhb and 40ms to Cpt (from Cpt). I have only seen 2 hiccups over the past month where ping has spiked and speeds dropped for a few hours, but I assume that this is them re-routing during network upgrades/repairs.
I find their tech support via Twitter DM gets the quickest response.
