Cell C Fibre vs other

Hi Ginggs, Sorry for the delay in replying but I was out of town. I am on Vumatel with Cell C. i have just done a Speedof Me test this morning, Sunday, on my 50/50 line and Ping is 176, upload 42Mbps, and download 24.1Mbps on a 32 meg test. Not promising. We have Vumatel and Telkom in this area, so I am stuffed whatever I do - there is no move available. I have been thinking of changing Cell C for Vox on Vumatel but this does not look promising, judging by the Forum discussion

So maybe a localised issue?

Strange, upload should be affected too not only download. Vumatel speed test shows full 100/100. however, isp speed not achieving this. I've cancelled anyway, will be looking for a new isp.

Any suggestions? leaning towards CISP...

Could be a congested link or issue within cellc then. Its been smooth sailing down here in Cape Town (although all traffic is back hauled to joburg).

I've seen mostly positive comments on CISP, but as always do your own research.

Anyone else experiencing insane latency tonight?

Although the IPs are different, it looks suspiciously similar to problems on LTE.

@morkhans

A friend of mine is experiencing the same on cell c fibre. High latency every night for the past week or more.

I logged it ticket with the call centre before I posted it was resolved about 20-30min after my call.

Looks back to normal

Spoke to soon. Latency has been replaced with 100% packet loss.

Some stuff works some things don't. Skype shows as online. Looks like a peering issue perhaps.

Been having issues with Cell C in Cape Town for the past 2 weeks.
Started with packet loss that lasted for about a week. I reported the issue and it seemed to have been resolved though Cell C customer service apparently couldn't be arsed to call me back.

As of about 30 minutes ago, fibre is totally down and will not reconnect.

On the verge of cancelling with them.

I need to decide between CISP or C-Fibre

I see they both offer a 20/20 deal for R899/month (no contract, month-to-month). The usual free connection and free router,

except that Cell C also cover the Vumatel fee of R1700.

Can anyone comment on Cell C fibre in the Edgemead/Bothasig area?

I'm happy with it.

Only negative is no cape town break out.

CISP has better peering.

Been with C-Fibre since 01/03/2018 and of the 12 days I've had them, I've had working internet for 6. Would not recommend C-Fibre, at this point the my broadband carrier pigeon would be a better option.

I have had Cell C since February 2017- first at 20/20 but as this was totally useless for streaming, I upgraded to 50/50 last month. This has proved to be OK during the day but is also useless after 6pm., when it buffers a lot, freezing the screen and eventually it stops working altogether, ending with a message "problem with the internet" on a black screen. Sometimes it reboots itself going back to Google but it is always necessary to reboot the whole system. My TV, a Samsung UA55F8000, says in the handbook that it works down to 10Mbps., so we are obviously dropping below this level when it stops working. Speed tests to international sources are OK during the day, averaging round about 30/30 up and down but at night they drop down to well under 10/10. Vumatel has told me that the local speed to my address is very close to 50/50 at any time, so is it Cell C that has not got enough band width to accommodate client requirements. especially international band width? This my suspicion as they are almost impossible to get hold off and their help desk cannot help me. Does anyone have another theory? It could be the Samsung that has not got enough memory but it does work during the day, so this is unlikely. Please guys, I am desperate!

Cell C fibre

Hey guys,

I live in South Crest and Cell C had their tents up here handing out flyers saying We'd have Vuma Fibre here within the next 2 months ( woohoo! ), their options aren't so bad and there's no start up fee, according to the salesman its unshaped and month to month. I understand that there are a lot of other options other than Cell C, and would like to know how they are as an ISP?
