Cell C Fibre vs other

A quick update on C Fibre.
I was supposed to be covered by their Fibre and applied in July.
In September, I learn that the infrastructure is not even built and that Openserve has no idea of the timelines.
In November, Cell C starts billing me for non existant fibre (the infrastructure still doesn’t exist) and keeps on doing it in December.
Now, I have to spend my time going from department to department and escalating since it never seems to be the right person/department or they don’t understand the issue (thinking I complain about the Fibre not being there).

Did consider them, but my past experience with cell C was the deciding factor.
Whenever you deal with them, expect lots and I mean lots of junk mail, sms's and unsolicited phone calls. They have no respect for your privacy.

So I opted to pay for the Vuma installation @R1710.00 and take a month to month deal for R795 (so R104pm less on the 20/20 deal) with another ISP.
The whole idea of being locked in with a contract just freaks me out.
On top of that all this installation issues. I am glad I gave then a miss.

I got the 20/20 deal. Running over Vumatel. Got a direct contact with a local sales consultant who sorted out all the paper work and dropped off the router personally. So far speeds are as promised and emails to the sales consultant are dealt with quickly.
Only negative I can find at this stage is no local Cape Town break-out. All traffic routes via Joburg.

If you're in cape town you get +30ms or more on what you would get on another isp. For example, i get 142ms to uk on cool ideas and my friend gets 180ms on cell c.
Theres definitely a noticeable difference in some games like pubg because thats international.

Damn, thats a deal breaker for me. I only play PUBG at the moment... Thanks for the info man. I'll see if I can wiggle out of the contract, seeing that I'm not live yet.
Why do they quote the installation cost as R4700. On vumatel I only paid R1710. My 20/20 package cost me R799pm , no activation fee, with a tpLink modem that I did not and never will pay for.

I have the 20/20 connection but it is totally useless for streaming from overseas. It buffers most of the time and it is impossible to follow the movie. the speed drops to 6-8Mb after a fast start. I have tried to upgrade to 50/50 or 100/100 but cannot get Cell C to acknowledge my emails. I have just spoken to someone on Chat and he said I should email - [email protected], but they are the people who do not reply! tried again so we will see.
Cell C upgraded my connection from 20/20 to 50/50 last night. With a local ping of 3 ms, the download is rock steady at 51Mbs but the upload is all over the place between 42-47Mbs. Has anyone else found this anomaly? I would really appreciate anybody's input as I am totally useless in interpreting the results. I will try a bit of streaming on the TV later and see how it goes.
After being upgraded by Cell C last night to 50/50 I tried streaming a series "the adventures of sherlock holmes" via pudlocker at lunch time but it buffers a lot. When I tried a speed check on the TV the ping was 12Ms and the upload was 13Mb with download of 17Mb. This was directly connected to the LAN wire and not on WiFi. The 50/50 seems to be little better than the 20/20 I replaced - it seems to be all over the place, sometimes 50/50 or nearly there and at other times its nowhere. What do I do now?

iConnect sent a mailer out that they are moving us to CellC.
Interested to know if CellC has NNTP access, but other than that don't expect much difference between the two.

Sorry Pyro, but I have no idea. I am just a struggling simpleton. What I do know is that you are in for a lot of trouble, like the feed just cutting out and you find yourself staring at a black screen, continuous buffering and delivery that is all over the place. My 50/50 line last night produced magic - unfortunately I cannot attach a photo - latency 7 Ms, download 5.95Mbps and upload 15.63Mbps. I wonder why they upgraded me to 50/50 these are similar to what we got on the 20/20. Good luck

Ok, there is something seriously wrong. You should be getting close to 50Mbps down and 50Mbps up. You're not evening getting close to 20Mbps down and 20Mbps up.
Which fibre network are you on?
Vumatel, I sometimes get 25mbit and 30mbit. But something is definitely off.
