I see several ISP's now have Cell-C Fixed LTE packages.
How do these work ?
I do have coverage and I only want a Sim as I already have a B315 router.
They say I get one to several months free ??
How does that work as are these not prepaid like Telkom's or am I missing something here or does it mean I have to take out a Sim only contract and if so how does that work.
Basically all I want is to see how well it works here.
Sorry for being so confused.

Do not take the packages.... Their network is absolutely crap

It's Month to Month so all you have to do is select sim only and how much data you want and they will deliver the sim to you and if you not happy with the service you just have notify them and they will cancel the service.

Which ISP you taking service with?

Although you are correct in what you are saying, Afrihost will still charge you R999 if you cancel within the first 6 months irrespective whether it is a sim only deal

Ahh, thought there was a catch somewhere :(
Thanks for the info guys, I just want to test to see how it works as the Cell C tower is only 300 meters from here.
I have tested the Telkom LTE and that works great but the 100 GB package from Cell C is quite a bit cheaper and every cent counts :)

All I can say is DON'T! Been on the Cell C package for a month and the connection is JUNK. The connection drops AT LEAST once every hour and can take up to 10 minutes to reestablish. Extremely annoying when you are streaming something or gaming online. Logged many complaints with Afrihost and they can't figure out what's the problem. Looked around on these forums and multiple people from Jhb, CT and Durban complaining about the drop in connection. Also, according to Cell C you can expect up to 100Mbps but on a good day I barely get 4Mbps.

Might also want to look in the T's & C's regarding the SIM-only deal. Someone else on this forum got it expecting to get his free 100GB data for the first month. But Afrihost applied the standard pro rata policy and he only ended up getting 35GB as he only got the SIM towards the end of the month. So just be aware of that. If you going the SIM-only route make sure it is only activated on the 1st of the month if you want your full 100GB.

Although I would still not recommend getting it as the connection is a bloody joke! Now I am stuck with this garbage connection for another 5 months unless I want to pay the R999 cancellation fee.

I called Afrihost this morning with the exact same issue. I moved from the RAIN Fixed wireless to the Cell-C fixed wiress due to price a little over a month ago.
Since I got the Cell-C sim, its been Hellova Irritating with the constant disconnection issues.

The techy advised that its due to the incorrect settings on the router and that if I follow the steps below it will be resolved:
______________________
Please find apn setting bellow

- Open your Wi-Fi settings on your computer or tablet and connect to the Mobile Wi-Fi Device Network.
- Open your web browser and type 192.168.8.1 into your address bar.
- Login with your Router's Credentials
- Navigate to the settings section select dial up and click on the profile management tab**.
- Enter afrihost into the APN field and click save*.
- Restart the router and you should be fine

If there is anything else you need

Afrihost.com
Pure Internet Joy!

He also said that if I have "afrihost" already entered into that field then I should use "internet" instead. but he also said that its more likely that its currently set to "internet" and thats where the issue is coming from.

Will give it a bash when i get home and Update tomorrow, Hope it works!

Yeah, they sent me the same supposed fix a few weeks ago. Changed the setting and didn't make the least bit of a difference. Connection still drops every hour or so.

Sorry

Just reading the gripes on this forum, I see Axxess is probably the way to go for a test.
I've had my 4 Mbps ADSL with Afrihost now 5 years and am very happy with them, but LTE looks like they are the pits.
Problem with ADSL is I NEVER see more than 3 Mbps during peak times and that sucks when streaming 1080p as you need a constant 4.2 Mbps for that so I end up with 576p if I'm lucky.
Telkom LTE is very nice, average around 35 Mbps but costs a bit.

Seems like Afrihost is having a problem with their system that causing random disconnects every hour (even more regular after 19h00). Changing the APN does not help anything at all. Tried with different routers and the problem persists. Logged a query with their support regarding this and was also told that I should power down the router, remove the SIM, reinsert it after 10 minutes and power the router back on... Did absolutely NOTHING! Decided to try another provider and ordered a new SIM through CoolHost (FREE delivery with no commitments whatsoever), connection so stable now and not getting consistent disconnects/relogs. Also when doing a Speedtest it shows Internet Solutions (their LTE-A Wholesale Provider) and not airmobile.co.za as it does on Afrihost's. Really not sure what is up with Afrihost, but this problem is going to cause them to lose clients by the day... Rain's Fixed LTE through Afrihost is 100% fine, just Cell C that seems to be broken!

I have a normal Cell C LTE contract. Their network depends largely on where you are located, but my service is great, and actually improving as people in my area are converting to fibre. I'm happy with 20 down and 10 up.

if it works, it works the problem i have been facing is every now and again my router disconnects from the network and i can't seem to find a solution anywhere...
Ping: 19ms
Download: 28.62Mbps
Upload: 9.81Mbps

You and a ton of other people have this problem, including me. You are lucky with those speeds though. On a good day I get 4Mbps down and somewhere between 7-10Mbps up.

Hi hattter

Are you directly with Cell C or an external ISP?

Hey I have the same issue! About once every two weeks or so I'll wake up and NOTHING works. Check the router and the signal lights will be red. A reboot fixes it, but it's annoying!

I guess Afrihost should be called AfriScum because they are just full of **** at the moment.

spoke to some nut the other day who had no clue what he was saying... i have basically reached the point of cancelling all their crap and moving to Telkom but with Telkom it's a Damn 24 month contract :crying:

Move to Axxess. Same no fixed contract and from what I can see, Axxess people don't have same problems with connections dropping the whole time. Issue is somehow just with Afrihost. Axxess people still have speed issues at night with Cell C like us Afrihost clients.

u cant simply move afrihost has you locked for 6 months of you will need to donate R999 to their bank account....so yes and I would not recommend Axxess from what I heard the speed issues are worse at least when mine works it works!

hi hi with afrihost sadly
Afrihost

Same here. Afrihost. I asked them to cancel my Rain LTE, and then they suggested I migrate over to Cel-C Lte. I missed the bit in their T&C when I migrated that a fresh R999 donation needs to be made if cancelled before 6 months. Same disconnection and no signal issues. Disconnects every hour for 10 minutes up to an hour or more. It has now been disconnected since 13:15 today. Restarted modem multiple times. Emailed support multiple times over the last three days and no response.
