Cell-C / IS "fixed" LTE

thats correct, cellc doesnt allow regional break-outs in cpt, dbn etc.. according to them this is planned for sometime in 2018.

Ah that's great news, I thought I was going to be stuck with the extra latency until I get fibre in my area.

Has it improved your latency/speeds?

I think latency is as good as its going to get (around 31-35ms to minimum since traffice is routed through centurion and I'm in cape town), download speed has improved somewhat, I now get around 60mbps down which isn't the best I've seen based on speedtest results here, but it's very acceptable for sure: http://www.speedtest.net/result/7164264312

I was in Durban, New Germany for a few days and speed test returned with the same router, huawei B618s-22d:

down 25mbps, up 10mbps, ~45ms

Would be interesting to see if I get CA in Cape Town and if things have improved, but I'm not expecting it based on me being on the outer rim of the coverage area for Fixed-LTE of Cell C.

Hi. Can someone confirm the outgoing smtp settings for this service. I am using Axxess.

Is there an outage in Cape Town? When I try to connect, it says the connection has been reset and I can't do anything.

Turns out I had reached my limit. I ended up having to top up my data. :/ Here's the email that I received from Axxess:

Hi GenuinePleather,

We have compiled a data usage report to help you track your monthly Internet usage. According to our records your usage on account [XXXXXX@axxess] at 2018-03-26 10:15:36 reflected the following:

Total bandwidth used: 89%
Account limit: 45.3GB
Available bandwidth: 5.16GB

Please bear in mind that this is a usage-based service and as such is subject to a Account Limit of 45.3GB.

Please Note: When your account is capped, you can easily topup/upgrade your account and make payment by using the Axxess Mobile Control Panel (App), available for download on iOS and Android

Huh. I wasn't aware this was how it worked. Thought that if you pay for 50G that's what you get... Why advertise it as 50G if it's technically only 45?

Something doesn't make sense since it says 5.16GB available.

Does it take you to the "capped" page?

Were you pro-ratta'd? you're supposed to get the full 50GB unless it was activated after the 1st.

Sigh boring then. They allow you to connect to band 1 and 3 separately but not together as LTE-A.... :wtf:

Interestingly, highvoltage, a few posts back just said he/she gets CA and LTE-A.
Maybe they've enabled Carrier Aggregation on this service now.

I only get a 10mhz band on 1800mhz.

Code:
Current Network Mode: 03
Current Network Band: 3FFFFFFF
Current LTE Band: 20000800C5 (800+900+1800+2100+2600+2600|TDD)

Code:
[LTE] [RSRP: -88, RSRQ: -4, RSSI: -67, SINR: 12] [1800 MHz, 10 MHz, CE701]

For a brief moment I got 4G+, this is what it shows on the huawei B618s-22d:

Cell_C_Fixed_4G_Plus.png

And this is what happens when I run the huawei_band_tool

Code:
[LTE+] [RSRP: -94, RSRQ: -13, RSSI: -65, SINR: -1] [1800 MHz, 10 MHz, 104804]
[LTE+] [RSRP: -94, RSRQ: -12, RSSI: -65, SINR: -1] [1800 MHz, 10 MHz, 104804]
[LTE+] [RSRP: -94, RSRQ: -10, RSSI: -65, SINR: -1] [1800 MHz, 10 MHz, 104804]
[LTE+] [RSRP: -94, RSRQ: -12, RSSI: -65, SINR: -1] [1800 MHz, 10 MHz, 104804]
[LTE+] [RSRP: -94, RSRQ: -11, RSSI: -65, SINR: -1] [1800 MHz, 10 MHz, 104804]
[LTE+] [RSRP: -94, RSRQ: -11, RSSI: -65, SINR: -1] [1800 MHz, 10 MHz, 104804]

Clearly shows LTE+ but still 10 MHz, so I don't know if this is a limitation with the huawei_band_tool or if something else is applying.

This is using internal antenna only.

Haven’t used my router in over two weeks, I tried using it yesterday to no avail, even hard reset the router and setup everything all over again but it’s still not working. I left my phone connected to the WiFi throughout the night and it seems to have used 15mb but I can’t open any pages or do anything*♂️*♂️.

What else can I do? Is the APN still lte.broadband.is?
