Cell-C / IS "fixed" LTE

Has anyone else experimented with the bunny ear antennae?
I found I got the best speeds with one antenna, the slowest speeds with none, and with two antennae, somewhere in between.

I found the antenna made the biggest difference to upload speeds.

edit: this is on the B315 and I haven't tried changing the bands yet.

I wonder if any of them have actually done this because they skipped a step in the beginning where it asks you to set up the WLAN.

Thanks for all the info present in this thread. :)

Has anyone else noticed the difference in price listings when topping up through the website and the mobile app?

Through the app it states "1GB Rain LTE-A for R10" ?? (I'm on Cell C LTE)
on the website it states "1GB Cell C LTE for R13"

Has anyone used one of the el cheapo indoor antenna's on the B618? Any improvement on signal strength?

Like these:

https://www.takealot.com/poynting-cellular-blade-antenna/PLID34148750

will need an adapter from SMA (male/female) to TS-9 for those antennas to fit on the huawei B618s

I ordered a while ago the antenna in the picture of this review from aliexpress. Might turn out junk but it was so cheap, might as well try it, only 80 more days to wait for delivery... :)

Hi.

I am on the Mweb Cell C LTE 200 Gig deal.
Since beginning of March it has been problematic.
How does this collaboration work?
Does Mweb use the Cell C LTE A towers but provision it's own data or is this just Mweb reselling Cell C data?
It feels like the former.
I started off on a direct Cell C data deal but switched to Mweb because for the same data I paid R250 less.
I am regretting that decision because of the bad connectivity, high latency and sometimes just no internet at all.
In the evenings when I typically want to use the service for streaming, I sometimes have a speed test speed of value of 1 Mbps.
Before switching to the Mweb deal, with Cell C I had speeds that varied from 52 Mbps to 30Mbps and no connectivity issues.
I am considering switching back to Cell C and paying the premium.

Your advice or thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks.

The partnership works similarly to Rain – however, it is a Cell C offer through Internet Solutions’ billing and distribution platform. IS resellers then sell the packages to their customers

Are you using external antennas Kenny?

Yes. Running at -93 RSRP on internals.

Had to get them for RAIN as I stay about 6km from the edge of the nearest RAIN footprint. Had the router on the roof in a bucket with foil lined to the back third on the inside just to get 2 bars before I got the antenna, got 4 bars from there! What sucks is the extra R200 or so for adapter cables to fit to the 618, cheapish went to not so cheap because of that.

Now I am a fool that got conned by Cell:(, luck I just downgraded RAIN.

Got to give Axxess 14 working days to resolve the issue before complaining to Icasa. Last time I had to go that route Telkom Mobile had to refund me more than R3k. With the way Axxess is treating me (us) the result will be exactly the same, it does not matter what 'fine print' they have in place, if you have proof - these threads, various e-mails and ticket scripts - their conduct will sink them.

The simultaneous step is to, after giving fair chance to Axxess (and your reseller) to fill in this form -
http://www.thencc.gov.za/content/complaints - and give them what they deserve. They should have come clean a week ago. Every local website is littered with adverts of this CellC Fixed offer that simply does not give the consumer what he is believing he will get.

Agreed, just switched back to the LTE to try it out again and it's still as slow as dial up.

Those SMA to TS-9 adapters are expensive and you need two of them! :(

I thought I would chip in with this factoid.

If you phone Mweb support about LTE-A, there is a permanent automated message telling you that "Cell C LTE users may experience slow speeds, no or intermittent internet connections etc... IS and Cell C are working together to resolve this".
I have had all of the above for 2 weeks now.

I contacted Mweb support and asked them who is provisioning the data for the Cell C deal.

The guy was not sure, put me on hold to enquire about it, then let me know that Cell C is provisioning the data.
Thus, Mweb is just reselling Cell C data as well as using the Cell C towers.

So either:

1. Cell C is throttling the external customers. Thus non Cell C customers.
2. Cell C is oversubscribed. Thus Cell C customers are also throttled.

I would like to know which is true.
I was with Cell C for a month and a half and had no issues.
If I knew that Cell C customers were getting preferential treatment, I would most probably can Mweb and go back to Cell C even if it costs more.

In the past (2012-mid 2017) I could not fault Axxess on any of their services and their 24/7 support was exceptional.

I do not know what has happened as of late to deteriorate the above-mentioned. I have had my B618 and SIM for exactly 10 days now.

On the first day I was able to connect via the lte.broadband.is APN (intermittently) and thereafter (up until now) my router would not connect to the recommended APN and often gave APN profile failure errors on the front end of the router control panel.

I am able to connect to the default "Cell C" profile with the "internet" APN, though quality and speed fluctuates throughout the day. I experience the lowest speeds, highest ping and packet delays at peak usage times; this makes me think that the the service has been oversold by Internet Solutions.

Furthermore, since the announcement was made that the issue had been resolved; I noticed a drastic decrease in my download speed test results overall. I think that the only measure that has been implemented thus far in order to improve the service quality is throttling.

Maybe IS is hoping that enough people cancel their services so that the service quality can reach an acceptable level. What do you guys think?

I am also highly disappointed in the lack of feedback provided by IS and their downstream providers. I do however believe that the downstream providers' feedback could be limited due to non disclosure agreements in place. The feedback (pertinent to this issue) on most (if not all) downstream providers' websites is identical.

Even if non disclosure agreements are to blame for the lack of feedback from the downstream providers; the least they could do is stop selling the service until all issues have been resolved.
