OK, so I managed to get the Cell C LTE launch bundle from Melrose Arch this morning.

It consists of a Huawei E3276s-150, and a 100GB sim card bundle.

The only problem was that Cell C have not loaded the sim card serial numbers on their system yet, so I could not RICA the sim card. They tried to RICA with a few bundles, and the system would not accept any of the serial numbers, so somebody at Head Office slipped up.

I took a bundle anyway, will try to RICA it later, in the meantime I will play with the modem with another sim, but I guess that this will not be LTE enabled, so I will not get the full benefit out of this.

At R2999 this is a bargain, as LTE modems are still quite expensive.

Going to try this now on my new Sony Vaio Duo 11 (Windows 8).

OK, no problems under Windows 8, the modem software (Mobile Partner) and drivers work fine.

Unfortunately, the area in which I am at the moment (Oaklands, Johannesburg), does not have Cell C LTE, but the modem sees Vodacom LTE and MTN LTE.

Hopefully I can get Cell C LTE later at home, but it will have to be with a standard Cell C sim, I don't know if the Cell C sim cards have to be specially provisioned for LTE ?

The APN seems to be normal with this bundle.

Cell C rep, any idea why the LTE sim cards are not on the system and can therefore not be RICA'd ?

Well their LTE sure works better than their 3G - normally here my upload is always under 1Mbps ,usually 0.5/6.
RSSI of -77dBm

My LOL latency to EU servers with CellC before on WCDMA would be about 270-300 m/s - its now down to 230ish.
Personally no real win here as is get 230m/s on 8ta's WCDMA anyhow but there is improvement there.

Tun@, did you use a special LTE provisioned data sim, or just a normal Cell C data sim ?

I ask because I was unable to RICA the LTE sim.

Also, the E3276 modem does not work with my Asus RT-N66U router - this is a bit of a bummer !

Yes the LTE provisioned one - i rica-ed in store no problems so maybe its just the batch that was in the store you were at.

Ok, thanks, I hope that Cell C can sort out the LTE Sims in the Melrose Arch store, none of them are recorded on their system.

Maybe try rica-ing it at another CellC store & if it don't work see if they'll do an exchange one....Mine i got from La Lucia which is no good to you if you up Joberg

Which LTE band is in use?
Checking by selecting band by band (one band a time) and watching chages in registration:
AT^SYSCFGEX="03",3FFFFFFF,1,2,x
- where x is one of the following: 1. 4, 40, 80, 80000

Returning to your last settings:
AT^SYSCFGEX="03",3FFFFFFF,1,2,800C5

At last managed to get my sim RICA'd, will be testing Cell C LTE and reporting back.

Picked up good LTE in Benmore Gardens, but not at my house.

Come on Cell C, please put LTE on the St Davids tower !!!

DOVADO routers support the Category 4 LTE modem, Huawei E3276 since several months back.

Here is the DOVADO TINY (smallest of the lot) supporting it at 88Mbps actual throughput.

OK, just went to test the Cell C LTE at Benmore Gardens, using my Huawei E589 and Sony Xperia S.

DL=13190kbps; UL=8728kbps; Ping=37ms.

Quite acceptable, thank you, Cell C, I could live with that !

Now when are you going to put LTE on the St Davids tower ???
