Cell C planning a broadband offering

I predict that that the suppliers (especially the Chinese ones) are going to get rich.

I wonder who will buy Cell C when they do finally hit the wall? Of course, the new Companies Act may help, since it introduces the concept of Business Rescue (like Chapter 11 in the US), which allows a company to recover from bankruptcy without crashing and burning.
 
Just for the record - I use CellC prepaid, and up to date, have experienced very few issues.

Overall, I'm happy with their network and service so far.

Rumour Had it that Cell-C & Telkom-Mobile were going to partner for Rural Sites but this may be true for 3G towers as well.
That is interesting

LTE 2600mhz spectrum has not been allocated yet, so no one may use it except Iburst & Sentech.

Too little ... too late. Which customers/ market are they focusing on?

Too little? HSPA+ is certainly a lot faster than other offerings on the market.

Too late? In THIS broadband market? Lol! True broadband is only beginning to take root here. Perhaps waiting until they could provide a proper service to their customers was the right choice. Next year will tell...
 
I'm all for this as long as their backend CAN sustain the throughput to each client as advertised. :erm:
 
is there anyone using Cell C mobile internet? how does it measure up as compared to others?
 
I am soo happy to see cellc coming to their senses as since the very begining I was supporting them, all my contracts are with cellc but pls sort out the "patchy at best" network before you even consider 3G or broadband for that matter, at this point in time the best that can happy is soething like neotel, all the service that no one can actually use.
 
They are realizing that a pure voice business is doomed and they need to act.

I think they might be in a good position to offer something special, it just depends on who is running the show and if they are truly committed to change!
 
Wow can't belive you guys are complaining about competition....look what seacom did already....uncapped baby!!! Let's see who complains when they launch their products and VC and MTN drops their prices???? VC and MTN needs to upgrade to be able to compete, since Cellc is a new entrant all the hardware they've been buying for the past year was HSPA+

As far as i know they'be been converting bonds(loans) to investor equity...(hope i have that right lol) Getting 5Bil in the current market is a sure sign that they have massive backing....

Surely HSPA+ is backwards compatible with HSDPA + HSUPA and/or maybe 3G? Or do they have to be rolled out seperately? It would be stupid if the chipsets that they use in the base stations don't backwardsly support 3G/HSDPA+HSUPA, as well as HSPA+. Is this possible though?

HSPA+ is backwards compatible, what i was getting to in my post was that no consumer equipment has been made available or warranted in order to push the operators into spending the money to upgrade their networks to HSPA+

one also has to think about backhaul, currently 7.2mb puts the network on the limit, hence why guys struggle getting more than 2mb on HS half of the time.So spending $$$$ on an upgrade that will further degrade the QoS of the network isnt really viable.

Also a note to the guys expecting 21mbps, HSPA is a best effort service. To get 7.2 in HSDPA there pretty much has to be no one on the tower that is serving you. Towers also prioritise voice traffic over HSPA traffic. So unless its you and 2 or 3 other people on one tower, i highly doubt you will get 21mbps.

so if one were to have a normal 3G handset one would get 3G kinda speeds if connected to a Cell-C HSPA tower?

Which would be an improvement on the current EDGE on Cell-C

ya handsets have HS classes that support the different advances, so between the tower and the handset, which ever supports the lowest speed, that is the speed that you might attain.

so if you had a 1.8mbps phone connecting to mtn/vodacom 7.2mbps tower you would only be able to potentially attain 1.8mbps.if the phone supported 14.4mbps on the same mtn/vodacom tower, you would be limited to7.2mbps.
