Cell C - Possible Data Usage Inflation?

Still very close for me. Total usage according to MDMA: 2154.67MB. Usage calculated by subtracting before and after balances on *101# : 2155.16MB.

Usage according to MDMA: 181.0MB up, 979.6MB down, total 1160.6MB
Usage according to Windows RAS: 182.2MB up, 980.7MB down, total 1162.9MB

Usage according to *101#: 1139.33MB

In this case, I was unable to connect to any sites other than www.cell.co.za for most of the night, so I assume the 20MB or so that the *101# balance is under is due to failed connection attempts. At least I wasn't billed for those.

Whoosh download measurement

Hi guys

I got the Whoosh 5 Gig/month.

Problem is that after 800megs, it said 5 gigs downloaded for the month. I phoned CELL C who said sorry that the download amount on their stick is only "indicative"

800megs is a bit far of 5gigs. So basically its indicating buggerol..

Any one else having the same problems?

PS:- I know that the 800megs are pretty spot on

Funny!! Its new so the monthly and yearly data is the same...................

It sucks though as Cell C is ignoring me. Even on Hellopeter....... Lekker prepaid. Then they take the R2.999 and run!!

Perhaps you have Windows Automatic Updates and Antivirus running and downloading in the background?

Just how does "background" downloading differ in data transfer via the modem in any other way?

I assume that you've had the Data Product for a while, (Else if it was your first month, then you are experiencing the dreaded "No Rollover Policy" of Cell C.)

If this was your 1st month, there is some good news, as the 1st months usage is "supposed" to be gratis, to accommodate mid and late month in-store purchases. (I have asked Cell C Reps to substantiate this claim by them - to date, no such luck)

What was the Upload amount of Data? As you have to add both the Download & Upload to arrive at the Total Data Usage.
And the Cell C Representative should have been clear that the "indicative" measurement could only be out by a few Megs (max 10MB for each 1Gig). Even though I find it pretty darn accurate.

Whoosh

Hi guys

No, I have had it for one week. It is slow and I can promise you that my windows / anti virus is up to date as I normally use my girlfriends 3G vodacom stick.

My uploads are very very small.

Bottom line is that I now computers enough to know that at the speeds I am getting I could not download 5 gig even if my rig runs 24/7 for the whole month!!

Problem is that this is Prepaid so trying to get Cell C to respond is impossible. Not even Hellopeter works.

Both mine are accurate so that I haven't noticed and discrepancy.

@Garfield2010
1) Cell C MUST treat all Clients of Cell C equally (no discrimination), Prepaid or Otherwise... so you have to exert your rights with them. Also the monies paid to them on the Prepaid Data Bundle is still your property and held in trust with Cell C, according to the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

2) Ask Cell C on [email protected] to email you the XL file that lists your data usage and connection times, for the month in question.

3) If you find that there is a discrepancy that is not reflected - or you require further clarity, an RF Tech. can download the Mast Data that is recorded against your MSISDN. Number.

Yup, I think it was a once off anomaly, my balances have been accurate.

OK I need to resurrect this thread. I am not sure if this has to do with the fact that we are experiencing major connection issues in Randburg, so the connection keeps dropping, but Cell C claims +- 400MB more usage on the dashboard than my router.

Router
May 2011 (Incoming: 1235 MB / Outgoing: 81 MB)

Cell C Dashboard
Used: 1,701.65
Remaining: 3,417.36

I had to connect directly to my PC for some Cell C Call centre assisted testing, dashboard claims 50MB down, 7MB up. Still roughly 350MB that is unaccounted for...

Can anyone else see a major discrepancy in their usage?
