If your SIM card is lost or stolen, you can simply purchase a Cell C Numberless SIM from participating outlets and follow these easy steps:
  1. Dial 084 140 from a landline or any other cellphone and have the following information ready:

    ID number
    3 frequently dialled numbers
    Last recharge information
    New SIM card serial number
  2. Wait 24 hours before inserting the new SIM card into your cellphone

Remember
Don't register for RICA again if you have already done so If you have not been RICA'd, do the SIM swap first Your previous benefits of your old SIM card still apply, only the SIM number changes Numberless SIMs are available at most outlets the SIM swap will take 24 hours to process You do not have to purchase a specific HLR (Home Location Register) in order to be activated on your existing cellphone number.

Does anyone know if this applies to all SIMs? i.e. Can one do a SIM swap on a postpaid contract using this method? What about topup contracts? Prepaid and postpaid data SIMs?

Thats only for prepaid, TopUp / ControlChat / Contract all require you to pay CellC store R200

Had to do it twice in the last year :(
Thanks. :(

Sounds like a bit of a con though. When I migrated from prepaid to contract I could keep my prepaid SIM, so why all of a sudden is a new prepaid SIM not good enough?

Agree, a rip.

I have to do a SIM swap again as my daughter has damaged the sim. CellC rep was helpful was my first SIM swap so give him a PM

Thats true. it is different with post paid sim cards, the fee is different from each store. *DM*

I have tried the SIM in question in two other devices and am pretty sure that it needs to be replaced.

I called 08140 and explained the problem. The lady I spoke to explained that she is only able to do SIM swaps for pre-paid numbers but offered to escalate the query to a department that can do it for hybrid contracts.
She took down the RICA serial number of my unopened Cell-C starter pack and said I would be contacted within 36 working hours.

So, hats off to Cell-C if they get this right. Charging R200 for a replacement contract SIM card, without which one cannot make use of one's contract, is nothing short of extortion.

I've just received a call from 084140, the SIM swap has been completed and the new SIM will be usable in an hour.

Thank you Cell_C!

Hi Yahyaa

The SIM card that you lost, was it RICA registered under your name and ID number?

My son's CELL Sim stopped working. he wants to keep his old number. All sims we bought are Ricad. He is on top up. What can he do to use his old sim on one of the news sims we bought.? We have tried everything

Hi monkagain

A sim swap can be done to retrieve the number. However, on the account holder of the sim card can have a sim swap done.

Cellc is full of sheet. I lost my number and I tried to do a swim swap they refused and that sim cad was owing now because they refused I port my number to another network and they are busy sending me messages saying I must pay back. If the sim card was not working who supposed to pay? You must think I got my number on other networks and it's working so stop asking me that am owing am not your customer.
