CellC better get capacity sorted out,if they want to poke a face at Vodacom.Seriously the network is not holding of

And for some reason the same server moved away from me :)

Happens all the time with speedtest, even though I live in Fourways, sometimes it shows I'm down in Durbs, or the eastern Cape or like today it shows I'm in Cape Town :)

My connection has also improved. I'm getting a 93% Signal which is amazing.

This speed test was from PC -> Router -> Cell C Modem

I am about 700m from the tower - I can see the damn thing from my balcony. I am also about 50m at least higher than the serving cell. When I had my issues, I tried two things that both worked:
(1) Put the Cell C sim in a different (worse!) modem, so that it drops itself down to a lower band. Suddenly, things were better.
(2) I wrapped the modem in foil. From no ping I suddenly started to notice a difference.

That said, I was told the new tower was still in the process of being deployed and really it was just a waiting game.
Ian: what is your:
LAC: ?
Cell ID: ?
RNC: ?
Use MDMA to find these. Maybe you are not connecting to the tower in direct sight.

LAC: 41
Cell ID: 43321
RNC ID: 401
MCC: 655
MNC: 07
RSSI: -53dBm
RAT: 3G

What do these numbers tell you, besides the tower id?

Proof that cellc has too many users and their tower can't handle the increase of usage on all week nights and month ends..... BIG PROBLEM as it is getting worse

why must we wait until early morning or midday.... to get results? Cell c please provide a solution because i have been experiencing this issue for 3 months now.

5:30 am test....

that sounds like useful information, please explain how you interpret it?

@ Pansyfaust, a technician attempted to contact you on 12/04/2011 around 10:48, regarding a ref, 1355310 that was logged for you. Please PM me details of when you are available....DM

Hey Cell C, i do have the reference number. I phoned tech support, got through and they said that the issue should have been sorted. They said that they had "provisioned 3g on my sim" and that all should be well and that the case was closed. He said it was resolved , but i could still not browse or if i could connect it would be terribly slow and disconnect. So the techie said that he will re-open the case and get a technician to visit my residence. He said in 7 days I should be contacted by a techie to arrange to meet at my place. I also went to the Cell C branch were i bought the dongle from to query the problem and see what options i have. I tested it in there and was getting an RSSI of -54 and getting up to 8mbps on speedtest DL, bout 2 mbps UL and 60 ping. So must just be that my area is badly supported even though a tower(as calculated by GReGorGy using API-locator) is about 900m away and the coverage map puts me well inside good coverage. I know you guys have a process to get through in being able to help people, but its just frustrating that when i need to check my emails in the morning i cannot connect at all or it does not download all of them in Microsoft Outlook.

Well, its actually what the technicians have told me, the peak periods mon-thurs have high pings 170ms + and weekends and off peak are 70ms - 89ms and the download goes from 8- 11mb/s down to 1 - 3mb/s and upload from 1.5mb/s down to anything lower than 0.5mb/s... they don't have enough bandwidth on certain towers and they checked my tower and said that its overloaded....

So people are joining faster than cellc can expand towers and provide higher bandwidth, thats why they are upgrading to 42mb/s so we can get slightly improved speeds perhaps closer to 10 or 12mb/s.... that's my take on it.... problem is we suffer 5 out of 7 days...
