Cell C Speed Test Results

Yup - works fine if I change my location. works fine at a coffee shop in Northgate and also in Fouways. Definitely a signal issue. A technician has now said they are going to do some work on the towers in the area today. Of course I now don't believe a word that comes from CellC. I am out of town currently (ironically have connected with the stick at Sun City - roaming on edge with Vodacom) Will be back on 26th to see if anything has improved. Then have to begin the fight to get my two months of data back.

Will also try that unofficial fix on Sunday. Any reason why it is unofficial? If the technician could have told me i could maybe at least have something of a connection. Eventually I want at least 6Mb though as i would like to use a 3g router for my home network rather than telkom.

Ok speed tests are cool and all, but how about some real life examples?

Like this, I downloaded 550.2 MB in 10:42 min :) Think that works out to be 0.85 MegaBYTES/s AVERAGE :D which is 6.8megabit/s if I'm not mistaken..
 
just got my best ever results, why can't it always be this speed (or even close)



maybe it's cause everyone in my area is still stuck at the petrol station
 
Cell C is a joke… hence they have a comedian as a spokesperson.

Off-hand the speed seems reasonable… but stability = zilch
It took 5 connection attempts to get online, and you can forget stability. It drops me off whenever it feels like it. Speeds actually fluctuate from 2Mbps to 0kbps. The average from my experience thus far has been more like 200kbps. RSSI is at -81 dBm
I feel this was a waste of my money and am sticking to my ADSL.

The other day I wasted 2GB of my data to download a 996MB update, and ended up with a corrupt file. Got it via ADSL no problem.
 
Anyone using the Speedstick in the Equestria, Pretoria area? According to the Cell C shops and coverage map, Equestria lies on the edge (no pun intended) of the 3G range.
