So we have been a CellC data customer for 24 months. The contract expired now in November. Our CellC account has 130 data contracts and and each contract received a discount.

So now in November I look at my invoice and it is R15 000 more. I query this with CellC and I am told that because the 24 month contract is over, it is now month to month and the discount falls away, so we are now paying R244 for a 2GB contract???? To fix this issue they say I must renew the contract? No chance CellC.

We now have to pay R15 000 for the same crappy service. Do you guys think this is fair? Now to cancel I have to give a calendar month....

Be careful with doing business with Cellc

Hi darrencon. Unfortunately that's true. You have to renew the package for the discount to be valid. Please PM me your contact details. We will discus how we can best resolve the issue.*DM*

What was the discount structure? R244 is very expensive.

How to resolve this issue?

Option A)
Put up a R61000 banner in a public place advertising what they did.

Option B)
Hit Cell C where it hurts by leaving them for another service provider.

Unethical my backside, geezus people can complain.

I was under the impression the sunset clause will keep the status quo until the customer decide otherwise?

What is in the CellC T&C's?

One more way for South Africans to get shafted. :(

We are leaving them for another ISP.

I do think this is unfair theyb should have contacted the customer well in advance to warn them
No problem if they can fix billing (subject to signing new contract or terminate service altogether).

I had the same problem. Tried to renew my contract, but the skelms still overcharged me. They even tried to cancel my cancellation. Will never use those bunch of idiots again.

The unfair part is that none of the service providers will take off the handset charge once your contract expires and continue to charge you. I am surprised that you have so many subs with CellC and have not managed to take out a business/corporate account where this would fixed. Best option would be to go to a service where the bandwidth is shared across the account and not on an individual sub. I think Vox offers that.

This is a corporate account... and you are referring to a private APN but those are very expensive across all service providers.

FWIW we also looked at a private APN, but shelved that idea. Excellent idea, you can control what your users can access and so on, but it's too expensive. :(

A SIM with a harcapped account (prepaid) for each user (who requires 3G) will work out much better (and cheaper) in our case. It is then the user self who will be responsible for bandwidth usage.

FWIW I have decided to opt for a CellC prepaid contract as there is no risk of OOB at all - unless this is sneakily changed on their side. Sure it is a bit more expensive than a similar normal contract, but I think the extra money is worth the peace of mind knowing I cannot be handed a huge bill.
