CellC 3G modem with 8ta data SIM card

Does anybody know how flash a CellC 3G modem/router (the shiny black card size one, from a CellCSmartData contract)? I bought an 8ta data bundle with SIM card and initially it all worked but then the modem started disconnecting. Only after swithing it off and on it would pop up as a D: drive and connect again. I set up a Dial Up for 8ta after using their Connect software, entering *99#. 8ta Tech said the modem needs to be flashed and only CellC know how to do it. CellC refuses to tell me how as I terminated the contract. Thanks for any advice!

Cell C software doesn't restrict you to Cell C SIM. You can dial other networks as long you setup profile. Dialup profile settings is identical to Cell C: *99# and APN internet.

+1, done it many times. You could also use 8ta's branded version of the Cell C dashboard, but apart from giving you a different look, it's pretty much identical to Cell C's. In fact, once you have installed the driver for the modem (which happens with either flavour of that Huawei software) there's no longer any need to use the dashboard at all if you are in Windows 7: just click on Windows' network icon and Connect. Or of course there is gging's excellent freebie, MDMA which gives you more control.

It does not need to be flashed. You are being told a BS story. I have used an 8ta data sim in a Cell C modem for 8 months, no problems.
