Champix (Quit Smoking)

Not the greatest advice if you ask me. Some people, myself included need an aid when quitting. I sure did. I could not do the cold turkey and push through thing.

Champix helps with the quitting process. Why on earth do you want to make an already difficult task of quitting, even harder.

But respect to you for going cold turkey.

yea i see i miss worded a few things there, thanks for pointing that out.

I think we need to establish firstly what your meaning of cold turkey is...

An example, My mom is on champix currently and has been for 2 weeks "trying" to quit. Champix as you said is an aid to help you quit. Now during this period my mom has still been smoking and i honestly dont see how any tablet or anything similar can get rid of the habits. The habits are what cause most people to start smoking again, you kind of dont know what to do when you would usually pick up a cigarette.

My definition of going cold turkey is completely stopping smoking BUT you can still use "aids" to help. If you look at my post i actually replaced the habits with smoking weed which technically was my "aid" if you want to call it that. I fully understand why people will need an aid to help but i dont agree that using an aid and carrying on smoking will make you stop, how can it? thats why in my advice i said its best to just go to bed one night and finish the box and just dont buy again. Also if your partner smokes you both have to quit or it will never work. I was still staying with my parents at the time I quit and they still smoked in the house so the temptation was there but i just used willpower to not steal one on the sly and also everytime i felt like a smoke i hit a bong..

It definitely is tough and i can understand people that have been smoking much longer than me must battle. Hope you find an aid that helps but again i say do not smoke while using these aids, i just dont see the "aid" working if you continue to smoke. I know champix says you will continue to smoke for like 3 weeks of using it but i think its just a load of rubbish. you either stop or you dont. Its breaking the habits that you need the aid for mostly. remember the cravings mostly go away after around a week or so(sure they pop up every now and then but not as intense as the first 3 days in my experience and my gf's), habits they say takes 21 days to break.

Been on it now for just over 2 weeks, already quit smoking, but still crave it every now and again.

And yes, had the nausea and dreams as well. Luckely no other side effects!!

Yeah don't be fooled. Champix is not a wonder drug that just stops you smoking. YOU stop smoking not the other way round.

But it makes the process of resisting the urge 1000% easier.

Wow...I am really encouraged by this thread. So glad I asked here on mybb!

I heard it is about R700.00 for one course...and then you can go on another if you feel you need it?

Ok...think I am going to set my date for beginning of next month...then will go to doctor and get a script. Need some phsycing up to do big time! hehe

Afaik my mom paid around 300 for champix. She also only bought it once didn't feel she need it again. And she still hasn't smoked since.

I paid R460 for the first 4 weeks. You have to take it for at least 3 months, so its going to work out at approx R1,500.

Ja...phoned Clicks and she said it is R202.00 for the starter pack and then R205.00 for the maintenance. I spend that roughly on ciggies every month anyway..so I think I can do it.

R400 on smokes per month? What were you smoking? 1995?

I forgot to get my prescription refilled last week so ran out of Champix on Sunday. I could feel the cravings come back somewhat but they were hardly as strong as when I previously tried to go cold turkey. I still haven't touched a cigarette but I will go back on to Champix for at least another month...

I switched from Marlboro to LD...hence the saving. It is somewhere between R400.00 and R600.00. Not sure how many cartons I go through a month. LD is R20.00 a pack.

My ninth day on Champix, had my last cigarette last night. Had coffee and breakfast this morning (usually big smoke triggers for me) and feeling good, cravings definitely less than previous attempts to quit.

good guys! keep up the hard work!

Just try not pick up that cigarette, everytime you are about to pick it up, just put it back in the box and say NO!

:D

hope you guys can push through and stop smoking. Really benefitted me in a lot of ways!

Ok, I got my Champix and tonight will be my 3rd night - I plan to stop smoking by the 18th. Wish me luck
