Champix (Quit Smoking)

Cool. I will use this aswell. As the end of the month comes closer I am getting more nervous about quiting. Oh may the lord have mercy on my soul.

You can do it. :)

Only my third day, I realise that, but cravings are definitely less intense than previous versions. Champix is obviously not a magic bullet, as many others have said, but it sure helps.

My biggest challenge at the moment is fighting those reflex reactions - after a coffee, meal, chocolate, driving into the work garage, glass of wine etc. I'll find my mind wondering to smoking/cigarettes - until I realise it and consciously focus on something else.

mmm ja nee...gonna have to find something else to put in my mouth for those moments.

good guys! keep up the hard work!

Just try not pick up that cigarette, everytime you are about to pick it up, just put it back in the box and say NO!

:D

hope you guys can push through and stop smoking. Really benefitted me in a lot of ways!

You didn't quit cold turkey you used one drug to wean yourself of another which is exactly what they are trying to do. Don't get me wrong I support your method completely but its not cold turkey.

Ok so get this...go to my doc this morning to get my script. HE REFUSED! He asked if I am or were on anti depressants and I played open cards with him and said I was on it when I was in school still and my dad died (did not mention that it was suicide) and that my sister is currently on it (reason I mentioned this is because my sister asked me to ask him if she can use it also while on anti depressants). He then said no...he cant give it to me because I have a family history and I would be a risk!!!!

Gawwwd dammit!

Sommer agro now! /lights up :p

If it is battery powered and does not vibrate I aint interested! :p

yea i see i miss worded a few things there, thanks for pointing that out.

It definitely is tough and i can understand people that have been smoking much longer than me must battle. Hope you find an aid that helps but again i say do not smoke while using these aids, i just dont see the "aid" working if you continue to smoke. I know champix says you will continue to smoke for like 3 weeks of using it but i think its just a load of rubbish. you either stop or you dont. Its breaking the habits that you need the aid for mostly. remember the cravings mostly go away after around a week or so(sure they pop up every now and then but not as intense as the first 3 days in my experience and my gf's), habits they say takes 21 days to break.

Champix works by blocking your brain’s ability to take in Nicotine which can prevent smoking enjoyment. It
also encourages your brain to produce Dopamine, which helps with craving. So people who still smoke while taking Champix soon notice that the cigarettes no longer give them the satisfaction they are used to. This makes it easier for them to stop the habit because they aren't getting what they want any more. It becomes a box of useless sticks of tobacco.

Ockie, I've tried the e-cigs before. Spent about R400 getting one with nicotine drops. You probably won't be satisfied, they don't give you the throat hit you're used to (specially if you're smoking LD) and the 'smoke' is very thin. They actually work like a vaporiser, the drops go onto some stuff that looks like grey cotton wool that's in the 'filter' part of the smoke. Then there's atomiser (as it's called) which heats the drops. The rest of the length is the battery. You get automatic ones where you just drag on the end and it works but if it's windy and you have it in your top pocket of your shirt it could end up burning you because it heats up. There are also manual batteries that you hold a button in to activate when you drag. I used mine for about 2 months but it became tedious to keep charging the battery and keeping the drops with you (which if you spill on your skin can make you feel sick from too much nicotine), and cleaning, etc...bleh. And you aren't even allowed to use them on planes!

I am also thinking of going the Champix route. I got the starter pack today from Clicks, R395. But I'm still deciding on a quit date and am also anxious to attempt to stop. Been smoking for about 20 years, and at least a pack a day for 15 of those years.

You could try going to a different doctor, just be straight with them.

I am currently on Champix - finishing day 12 on the pills, and my second day of not smoking as I type this.

Champix helps, but there are still some bad-ass cravings to deal with. Day 2 was definitely better than day one though, hopefully day 3 will be even better.

Side effects were really negligible, only 2 were observed. Awesome vivid dreams, and some abnormal rage. To be clear, I wasn't a walking rage beast, but when I got angry / annoyed in the first few days (lets say the first five) - I got REALLY angry, luckily it passes quite quickly.

Pretty sure Champix is gonna help me go all way :)

My sister have told me about this herbal thing that people at her work is using now. Two people have stopped so far and another guy just started and he is doing really well. Not sure how it works exactly...but it apparently has a very nice calming effect on you and thus helps you quit. It is rather expensive is this woman brings it in from America I think. My sister said she is going to get it once she has moved into her new place and settled down. If she does well on it...then I will get it also.

Day 4, not really having any intense cravings any more - kinda just really want to go outside for a smoke (can't rationalize why :?)

Took my first Champix late on Saturday night. Had 2 pills so far. Has anyone experienced swoopiness? My head feels a little fuzzy.

I've noticed my cigs taste a little strange. Could just be my imagination but tastes similar to when I get sick with flu or something.

Folks, Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. Read it.

If you can succeed in making the shift in mindset expounded in that lil' book you will stop smoking. Cold turkey. And you'll do so easily, without the need for a substitute.

Twelve years of near 20-a-day came to an end recently thanks to that book. :)

I think had the same "swoopiness" that you talk about, it feels like your eyes are not focusing properly? Mine lasted for about an hour after taking champix in the morning.

Mine doesn't seem to be going away. Feels like I can't concentrate and like I have a mild fever.

Normal, you nicotine receptors are not being stimulated as much as normal, your levels of dopamine in the brain is also low and thats your 'feel good' neurotransmitter. It will take about 6 months to recover and a normal neurotransmitter balance to reestablish itself within your body.

And dont smoke while you on champix you wasting your money, it blocks the cravings like all anti-addiction medication if the basic desire to stop isnt there the drug WILL NOT work

Smoked my last ciggie earlier. Not on Champix though, but Vice Breaker (Herbal). Since last week Wednesday been only smoking one in the morning before leaving for work then again one when I got home. Tonight my last night. Will continue taking my capsules though till it is finished. Not sure if it is a placebo effect...but I think it actually does help. Normally I would be climbing the walls and clawing the curtains...but much easier to control now. Does take effort though to keep myself from climbing into my car to go guy ciggies.

/breath in....aaand out.....breath innnn.....and out. You do not need cigarettes .... just breaaaatthhhhhhh

I am now 1 month free from smoking. I stopped cold turkey. No champix, no e-cigs, nothing.

Was the most difficult thing I have ever put myself through. The first week was terrible, but I just kept pushing through. Kept telling myself that the cravings will go away soon. I found ways of distracting myself.
