I've been a non-smoker now for three weeks and just so thankful & incredibly happy that I don't smoke anymore.

13th Feb 2012 I stopped with the aid of Champix, no vivid dreams and I am naturally a sour puss so I don't know if the tabs affected my mood. After 1 year and 3 months, there has not been a day I don't crave for a cig, I guess it is cause my wife smokes. Hopefully I don't cave in a steal one of her cigs.
I know this is an oldish thread, so I hope you guys that stopped still have not been tempted to take up the habit again

I am still going strong. Cant say I crave it either really. Now and again I might lus for one when having a coffee...but in general no cravings...even when I am with people that smoke. I did not quit using Champix though.

4 weeks no smokes, not even a craving for one.
Anyone who really wants to quit would be an absolute retard to avoid giving champix a try. Bare in mind you need to want to stop

Also would recommend a good E-cig, bought a Twisp Clearo last Thursday and haven't touched a cigarette since, nor do i have the desire too. Have been a pack every second day smoker for about 10 years. I get cravings but after about 10 pulls of the ecig and they're gone. Quite effective I would say. Still get the nice nicotine buzz without the nasty stuff and saving alot more cash.
Rather consult your / a doctor....

You won't know unless you try it, pretty simple really. if you try it initially you may feel a bit sick, get something for that. Get some genpains for the possible initial headache. Then you monitor yourself along with your husband. you won't suddenly go crazy but everyone is different so google could be better than a doctor but i would go for it and just monitor it. Any suicidal thoughts, stop immediately. Remember the first few days will be the worst for side effects.
That is my advice and by no means the only method nor is it verified so please research or consult your doctor but with everyone being different i doubt a doctor will be any help.

Hi, I would like to know what would be a win for me when quiting? A year, more? Are there any stats availble? What is the win/failure rate using these drugs compared to cold turkey?, for that matter, how many people never smoke again during their lifetime? I would personaly not even consider this if the sucess rate over 1 year is less than 50%. I think trying is admirable but I know I am somewhere in the middle of a bellcurve population distribution so if the majority doesn't achive success then i would rather focus my energy on something else. Oh, good luck to those already winning the battle.

Champix can make you feel very ill and can cause major depression which may end in tragedy, such as suicide. A friend of mine had a heart by-pass and the doctor urged him to quit. He tried Champix, quit for about 2 months and now smoking like a chimney.
I have quit cold turkey. Have done it before but started again. I'm hoping that this would be the last time and that I will never smoke again.

Champix killed my addiction. Dead.
I can actually have a cigar at a party, and never smoke again for months/years.
But when I went cold turkey, the urge for a cancer stick never went away.

Granted, people react differently to drugs. After my experience with Champix, I give it a thumbs down but if it helps other people to quit, then go for it.

Yup exacly my experience, cold turkey you have that constant nagging urge to light up, you fight hourly to avoid it. with champix i feel i have never been a smoker. I don't crave it, i don't think about it.
Ruby you just were not man enough to handle the sides of champix, so keep smoking buddie keep struggling. I had a few sides firs few days. Felt a bit sick, headache etc but i pushed on and they went away. You didn't even know how to use the drug lol, you were like a noob heroine addict attempting to inject himself without knowing any air bubble could kill you. Don't go all anti champix because you admitted to using it without the proper information, you just popped the pills lol.

It's not true about the cravings. Cold turkey does mean that you experience the withdrawal symptoms more severely, such as sore throat, constantly crave to put something in your mouth and insomnia. Eventually the cravings disappear only to reappear after a few weeks or months or years. The first 3 days are the worst. From there on it becomes easier.
Certain stressors may cause cravings, i.e. stress at work or in a relationship. Never quit smoking because someone else wants you to quit. Quitting smoking is about you and your health. When you do it to please someone else, it is a sure guarantee that you will give in to future cravings. Once you figure out what drives you to cigarettes, you are on the way to recovery.
It's not recommended that you take Champix long term and unless it permanently alters your mind, you may still have cravings after you finished the course. I am yet to see the statistics about long-term effects and also the likelihood of reverting to the old smoking habit.

You wont see long term results yet. In my experience I personally would never take a brand new drug as its still in clinical trials. Once a drug has generics then its pretty much tried and tested and safe.
Unless its life threatening and there are no alternatives I would wait for a generic.
