Fair enough, do you think China would agree to Taiwanese independance if Taiwan vowed not to allow US military bases or installations on it's soil?
Again, I don't see how it equates to meddling. Taiwan surely has a right to have anyone visit if they choose, do you think Pelosi visited without the consent of the Taiwanese government?
The fact that one tired US politician visiting is seen as provoking a war shows just how much people bend themselves in knots to appease the Chinese.
Chas Freeman who served as a chief diplomat to china during the Nixon years on the situation.
China isn't making the provocative moves here, the US is. The average Taiwanese is happy with the status quo and the opposition party (the party of Chiang Kai Shek) actually wants closer relations with China.
That doesn't contradict the poll that they prefer the status quo. Because the alternative is war.
The Taiwanese don't want reunification, but they also don't want independence as it would imply war.
Oh? Those PLA naval exercises in Taiwanese waters aren't provocative?
No, the alternative is an independent Taiwan. China is sabre rattling.
You can post over and over Ukrainians saying the welcome Russia, and the experts here will shout you down. Same thing with this.
Has been that is no longer in the loop nor current gets quoted as an expert...
The ignorance is so bliss over here. Since Obama's pivot to Asia strategy the USA has been arming the pacific to the teeth. They have basis in Okinawa equipped with missiles that can flatten Shanghai in a blits.
For China to invade Taiwan with its mountainous landscape that has been fortified for 70 years would be a more expensive landing than the invasion of Normandy.

I agree. Why do you lot all think 'Murica is the best thing since sliced bread?
Why do you use Murikin things like computers, phones and most of your tech then? Why not buy indigenous Chinese or Russian stuff?
What new bases have been created by Biden in the Pacific?since Obama's pivot to Asia strategy the US has created more military basis in the area and kept fueling the fire.
What does the US get out of this provocation? Why do they care so much for the Republic of China?
Lol
Dictatorship apologists - and so the othering starts.
Pelosi sides with and openly supports Taiwan (independence) in a Taiwan VS China conundrum. Taiwan is currently not recognized by the UN. As such, she is working outside of the proper channels.
Same as Russia promoting the independence of Crimea and Donbas actually.
You're suggesting that Stanley Mathabatha could invite the Dalai Lama to visit without the approval of the National Assembly. Insanity.
Taiwan is a province of China.
