Another of your inadequacies rearing its ugly head is that if you took time to note with whom you choose to "out-argue" you will see I personally am a DA supporter.

I honestly could not care where you choose to live. I know that where you are it sounds like your government is more competent than mine. So it is not that they are less corrupt - it is that they are very competent at not getting caught unlike our Western Wanna-Be Leaders.

Please do not be surprised if some people who live here take offence to your inadequacies or inability to "out-argue" when all you have managed to sum up are insults about the country you left. We still live here and we are still gonna vote. Hell - we might even make a difference.

You have every right to come here and "out-argue" - You have no right to take away rights and that starts when you took your right away from yourself for me at least to take you seriously.

Yeah, us "typical South Africans", we are a terrible bunch indeed. We may complain about the state of the nation; but at least we can agree upon one thing: we love this country and would rather not leave, had we no choice.

You, squire, you come to a South African forum and insulted South Africa - yet for some reason (I assume you're not a member of MENSA) are in absolute awe when we "typical South Africans" band together and challenge your posts and derogatory insults.

This is our country and you are not a part of it! You comments are insulting to the entire population and we will, as a collective, have nothing to do with you because you insult and degrade everything we stand for.

Yet, we will still welcome you back to our country because we are the rainbow nation. Regardless of what you decide we are, above all, forgiving and decent. There will always be dissidents; but what nation is without fault? I am truly glad to be part of a nation that stands among the great Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, FW de Klerk, the late and great Albert Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Oliver Thambo and Walter Sisulu. We are a nation of peace keepers and a glorious people, each and everyone of us.

I am not an ANC supporter, but I have every belief in the democracy we have created. I am a supported in the right to create a decent and rigorous opposition and a belief at the end of the day that this is indeed the nation of dreams.

Say there are 10 of us and you don't vote ... 9 people vote, each of the 3 candidates gets 3/9 votes. Giving each 33.3% of the votes. Now if you DID vote and you spoiled your ballot, it counts as a vote - but is awarded to nobody. Ergo, each of the candidates gets 3/10 votes. Giving each 30% of the votes.... your spoiled ballot took away 3.3% - so your disapproval cost them dearly.

If you don't vote - you are effectively a sheep in this country. You may _NOT_ complain about service delivery, crime, corruption, nepotism, unemployment etc. because when the chance was GIVEN to you to try and do something about it, you did NOTHING.

There are various political parties who have made their charters available to the public online. If you're not happy voting for a party, are you too lazy to read up on the choices given by others?

It's easy hiding behind the anonymity of numbers claiming that your single vote won't change a thing. Tell that to the ANC who lost one of the WC municipalities to the DA by a mere 2 votes a few years back.
 
So why should any of us bother to vote then? If it's corrupt and a foregone conclusion that this country is going to the dogs. We should just throw up our hands and say we give up? Is that what America did when they faced the biggest economical meltdown they have ever seen? No, they chose to fight for their country and what they believe in and elected Obama in the hope he will lead them out of the dark and into the light. You never give in when you love your country. You fight to make it better even if you have 10 people fighting against you. That is and what makes any country great and America is a true testament of that.
 
No the point i'm trying to make here is this:

We need to vote for our chosen party to ensure that the party who does win the election which in all likelihood will be the ANC (simply due to sheer numbers) does not get enough votes to start changing the constitution.

I am still stuck between voting for Cope or DA.

It may seem futile to you to cast a vote when the result is quite obvious but to the individual South African their vote means something.

Those who refused to vote, said it's a stupid game and no one can do that, DO have a right to complain when the person voted in comes to take your money. You have the right cause you didn't agree to rules and want nothing to do with it.

I've never heard such a stupid idea.

Whether you agree or not with any of the parties, you still have to pay rates and taxes and live in the world created and governed by the current government.
If you really want to make a point, then dont vote, dont pay taxes, dont pay rates etc......


Its juvanile to even imagine that you could agree entirely with any one party. Choose the best you can and vote.

To say you didnt vote excludes you from criticism of the state of the country is so wrong I cant even begin to reason with it.

I never voted under the old NP party, yet I am held responsible for those years and so will my children be etc.

I don't think that the ANC is incapable of doing a decent job - they just mustn't be allowed to run around unchecked, as they have been in the past. If they do it is only a matter of time before they go ZANU-PF on our asses, afterall, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

What I am challenging everyone to do is build up a strong enough opposition to hold the ANC accountable should they sway from the path that is intended to assist this country and not the needs of a few.

In all fairness ... I couldn't be bothered less with corruption / nepotism etc.

It's present in parties across the world - as long as service delivery is up to scratch, they can be as corrupt as they want.

Pretty much by accepting citizenship, he agreed to the rules. But yes, a non-vote is just as powerful as a vote for the ruling party, no longer the NP, of course.

Stop being an idiot. I never said I wasn't going to vote or my vote doesn't count. Pay attention. I say the argument of not having the right to complain if you didn't vote is bullsh1t.

If I had a choice, I would have left. But it's not just a matter of packing a suitcase and getting on a plane.
